I like the strike king coffee scented tubes t-rigged with a weighted swimbait hook. Its weedless but better than that its almost totally snagless in any kind of cover

As most of you all know, I am an avid fisherman on Herrington Lake and just in the past year really started to go after bass on the lake. Well thus far, I have mainly just used Deep diving crankbaits (5XD, Bandits, etc.), shaky heads, and texas rigged 10inch worms(after dark). All of these things have produced fairly well for me, but this year I really want to learn how to tube fish on the lake. I have tube fished for crappie and bluegill before but never really for bass. What is the best way to rig them? Do you all have any favorite brands or colors? I also was interested in getting some jigs/trailers to try out but didnt really know where to start there either. Thanks for all the help and if you all have any other suggestions as to something I should give a try, I am more than open to suggestions. I'm not asking for your secret lures or anything, I just want to be pointed in the right direction!
Thanks,
Nathan

To begin I would start with the basics. 3 to 4 inch tubes in the basic colors. Greenpumpkin, jumebug, watermelon. there are a few ways to rig them, texas rig for weedless and jig head for non heavy cover. You can also add tube rattles for off color water. mainly use a spinning rod for most applications. unless your flipping heavy matts. it's a versitile bait you can swim it stroke it like a jig or drag it on the bottom. Let the fish tell you how they want it. As for jig trailers chigger craws or netbait craws make good ones. I try to match my jig colors to the trailer. Black with blue, Green pumpkin with watermeleon and so forth. I'll also sometimes depending on water clarity tip the ends with chartruse dye for a contrast. I hope this helps...
Hey, back about ten years ago when I lived in the area of Lake Herrington. We use to throw Cabin Creek tubes with good success. The colors are the same as above, but it seems that our color that produced the most was smoke purple red flake. We use to throw them on a lead head weight and Texas style. Good luck
I agree. I struggled with finding a tube that was soft, with good colors and the right size. A friend mentioned Cabin Creek tubes and once I used them I was hooked. I buy them by the 100 pack now...(cheaper) and catch fish from Maine to Florida using them plus they are a local company!Hey, back about ten years ago when I lived in the area of Lake Herrington. When & where I can, I prefer to use a crankbait at night ... parallel casting the bank, in no less than 12fow. If they prove to be deeper or shallower than where my cranks are effective, then I'll use a texas rigged 4" Gene Larew craw (rattle optional).
I don't fish Bass tournaments, but I have Bass fished Herrington during quite a few that were going on (years ago). And, as everyone knows, on some banks you have to take a number & get in line ... LOL !! Never discouraged me, though ... as many times I would catch my fish "behind" one or more of the tourney boats. I'm referring to night tournaments, of course, and my success with the GL craw against worms of all sizes, made me stop buying worms.
I don't Bass fish much, anymore, and haven't over the last 20yrs or more, but my favorite cranks are :
Storm Wiggle Wart
Bomber Model 6A
Luhr Jensen Hot Lips
Bomber Fat Free Shad
Rebel Wee R
Bandit 300
My biggest Bass from Herrington is a respectable 7lb LMB ... caught on a Firetiger Model 6A Bomber ... June 1991
... pappy
Prowler Pro Pitch Lures make a variety of tubes to choose from. They are tournament proven and the best around!
X2 on the Prowler Tubes - great bass catching tubes. I like to use green pumpkin or watermelon in the 4" tube. Another KY brand that I like are Baney Bait tubes (www.baneybaits.com). They have a pretty potent smell baked into them that never goes away. I texas rig my tubes 99% of the time and find that dragging it vs. hopping it gets more strikes, but you have to let the bass tell you what they want...it changes daily! I found that out on Barkley last month.
In regards to jigs/trailers, Mtn Lures is the man when it comes to both of these and I suggest sending him a PM - trully a great guy who will be more than happy to help you out.
Good luck!
Would just like to thank everyone for the replies! Plan on going by a local bait shop in a few to pick some things up! I'll report back on how it goes.
D & L jigs with a Netbait Papa Chunk trailer. Black and Blue jig, Saphire Blue or Okechobbee Blue trailer. OOPS color jig, Bama Bug color trailer. 1/2oz or 3/16oz. Can't go wrong with either color.
