This is the only fish I got a photo of today. Sixteen pound Blue catfish. I then caught a 17 pounder but no photo. We caught a lot of smaller ones but those were the two bigger fish. I used cut shad as bait. Knute (The Heathen) was renamed "Net Boy". Hey ,boy, get the net!! I wish I didn't have my digital scale with me today because I really thought these fish weighed more but the scale proved me wrong.
All fish were released.
After I got home, I find a big pile of Morel mushrooms on the counter top. They have popped up again here and Mrs.Tyme found another big mess of them.

Chuck, I used the left over shad that Doug got on Friday. Had them in the freezer. Never even bothered to look for any bait up river. I know frozen bait isn't as good as fresh, but I used up what I had.
Very nice, I'm not a catfisherman by any means but seeing that picture makes me want to get a catfish rig.
Very nice catch my friend....
Great fish. When you all say above mcalpine where abouts is that and I don't have my boat yet so can you get to it by the bank ready to start fishing thanks guys happy fishingThis is the only fish I got a photo of today. Six mile island. There is no bank access.
Hey Tyme2fish, can't figure out how to send a private message... I am a small river trout/smallmouth fly fisherman, but recently got a boat for the family for outings on the Ohio (I live 3 miles from Coxs Park ramp). Would love to actually fish the Ohio, frequently visit 6 mile island just for scenery. Any pointers for a complete novice? I do own some conventional gear, and my boat has decent fish finder. Thanks!!
PM me if you would rather, and I'll try to figure out how to read it.

Bluegrasser, There's no real secret to it. You'll need at least a medium action rod in case a big cat gets hooked. Fish just above the bottom. How you get to the bottom is up to you.
I like to use circle hooks. The cats hook themselves. Don't "set" the hook like you do for bass. Just let the cat take the bait and turn and the circle will set it's self.
I generally fish on the Indiana side of Six mile Island closer to the Indiana shore.
Chicken liver is good bait but it doesn't stay on the hook too well. One nibble from a cat and you have to re-bait. Cut or live shad or skip-jack is the preferred bait for me.
Now please give me a description of your boat so I can tell you to get out of my hole the next Tyme I fish there.![]()
Well, my phone has me handicapped to cave-man levels. I will have to pull all this up on the ol home pc to 'evolve'.
So, in the meantime, wanted to pass on a very grateful thanks for the info! That gives me a real good foundation to start with.
Last question... Are you anchoring at likely spots, or drifting with the current when fishing like you described?
Thanks again!!
You can do either. I generally anchor up and if no action move location.
I prefer to drift but Knute (The Heathen) who is almost always on board my boat likes to anchor.
