    So what?

This is great news! if its true. Now maybe we wont need to worry about all those rockets and various gas and chemical weapons falling into the hands of a radical muslem group. What does syria have that we need? Sand to rebuild our east coast beaches? Now maybe they can kill a few al quadia commanders, and offer assad a place to go, and help him escape syria.Plus it puts thier asses on the line in the middle east, they may even be looked at as saviors to some arab folks. To tell the truth, I have not had the news on at all today, but I'll check out the BBC and reuthers later.

    Still no big deal

Nobahma so far hasn't been sucked into that crap hole. This was first reported in 2012, and since then more russian ships have arrived in syrias port city, sure they are delivering anti air craft missles, and attack helicopters.Assad is backed by them, thats no secret. I agree with isreal attacking missles to lebanon, BUT syria has the right to defend themselves against those attacks, after all its thier country. In fact there are rumors that isreal is backing some rebel groups with moderate goals. This isn't an invasion! Its an arms deal, and were also in that business.

I think it's more about Israel than it is Syrian Rebels. Israel will protect themselves no matter what anyone thinks. Good for them. They are all alone over there and every country around them wants to drive them into the sea. Israel has been making bombing runs to destroy weapons that were being moved near their border. Now all of a sudden Russia wants to send Syria some more sophisticated weapons. HMMM. I'm sure our media will continue to say it's about the rebels. We have taken sides over there and so has Russia. Almost like we are fighting a proxy war.

So we battle the Russians in a "cold" war from 1945 to 1985, DESTROY THEM economically, and then let them back in the game.......

AND you think Russian warships over there is a good thing.

    WOW........

IMHO, if the Ruskies were to decide to take on the combined US Navy and Air Force and Israeli Air Force, I think they would find them selves in deep vodka pretty quick.

I think the Russians are there just to say to the US, "Hey, we get a vote too".

It would logistically be extremely difficult for the Russian Navy to conduct long term ops in the Med. The lines of supply are long, and they would be very vulnerable to US interdiction of their naval supply lines thru the North Atlantic. I think the US darn sure knows that, and sees the Russian warships there as just a "Hey guys we want to talk about this" kind a a jesture.

I couldn't get to the article, it said it was available "to WSJ subscribers." Does it say they're sending forces? All I can find is new pieces about them sending advanced anti-ship missiles. Not that that's not a bad thing...

It was about 15 additional support ships being sent to the region. AND Hurricane is right, I don't think russia has a chance in HELL against our forces in the region, but Russia being there has nothing to do with them and us, it has everything to do with Russia giving advanced weapons to TERRORIST states.

And that my friends, is a direct threat to us and to Israel.

This must be the flexibility Obama was talking about with the Russian Prime Minister before the election......

Agree Geo, and here's a link that shows the last time the Ruskies tried to help the Egyptians with sophisticated equipment. Just as an example, food for thought. And this was a long time ago, so things equipment and technology wise have changed.
Operation Rimon 20 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Way lengthy article, I read thru it, and was just amazed that the Israeli's having at first backed away from the Russian threat, felt threatened enough to then decide "Well, if that cat is going to chase this mouse, it's time for the mice to set a trap for the cat". I really respect the Israelis because when the chips are really down, they gather courage and just wade in and let the chips fall where they may. Darn gutsy people.
I think this is what a big dog Russian mix with the little dog Israelis might look like :-)

    Whats the fuss

Having searched the BBC, and reuters, couldn't find much to concern me. But reuters did have some in depth features about the syrian war, and western involvement. Its a proxy war, that is trying to prevent a secular war from happening. In fact even found a site from russia, saying that russias sunni troops want to go to syria to fight, shiites. We should keep our asses out of it, let em kill each other, because in the end some day wer5e going to fight the winners, and it might be no holds barred.

I agree. If the bullies in that bar want to slug it out, wait until they have all gone 10 rounds with each other, and are near exhaustion, then only enter if its necessary to knock down the weakened winner. I feel sometimes you just got to get out of the fight long enough to regain your strength, economically, and troop wise, give it a rest, and then only get back into a fight if it proves to be a clear and present danger. Not a percieved threat of a potential threat of probable ally for a questionable cause with little to no potential gain.

And last, in this day and age, boots on the ground ought be the very last resort. I believe like T. Roosevelt, that warning quietly and firmly, but carrying a big stick, is better that getting into a prolonged tooth pick throwing contest. Drones and smart bombs save American troop lives, and clearly demonstrate your will and intent.
