Taking the grandchildren (ages 11 and 6) on our annual camping trip to Wolf Creek (Kendall Campground) middle of June. Would like for them to catch a few fish, but me, I'm a Bass Fisherman. So, here is where I need some help.
Where and how can I get them on to some Blue Gill or Crappie on the lake in the area of Halcombs Landing-Indian Creek (will be in boat), or on some trout below the dam (from the bank)? Great kids, love fishing, but if you know children, their attention span is some what limited if they are not catching.
Also, am considering going out after dark, putting out a LIGHT, and dropping a few minnow down for crappie, but no experience at this.
Grandchildren and I would appreciate any input we can get...

I'd go below the dam and fish from the bank for trout. You can use corn or small rooster tails and probably TEAR them up.Taking the grandchildren (ages 11 and 6) on our annual camping trip to Wolf Creek (Kendall Campground) middle of June. Thanks Geo, that is a good option, was thinking maybe go the the back of the campground, where the creek enters the river, put down some rod holders (corn, worms, powerbait, etc.) Only concern there is all the wood and hangups they would encounter. But still a good option, as well as other areas along the Cumberland bank. Thanks again.![]()
Flylie, my wife is a lot like a kid, when it comes to fishing. she will bass fish with me sometimes, but the slow rate of catching bass, makes her lose interest. we launched at the State dock on Cumberland and as your leaving the cove the ramp is in, if you turn right it will take you to the State dock and the main lake. but turn lift instead and go to the head of the creek, the water will be shallow, but that place is full of bluegill. we fished about 3 ft below a bobber, with pieces of nightcrawler's and it was lots of fun for us both, good luck where ever you try with the kids.

Are you familiar with the "Catch a Rainbow" trout derby held at the fish hatchery stream every year on the first Saturday in June? It is very crowded, but is a great opportunity to catch some trout with youngsters. Us older kids are allowed to fish after the derby is over. It might be too late for you this year, but keep it in mind for next year. You can stay at the same campground, but you have to book well in advance. You can also stay in the state park campground. If you don't mind crowds, this is a good time. Good luck.
