    First Cast Fish-Bad Luck Day

Went to Green this afternoon. Left LV ramp and pulled up on ledge then casted a brand new Rapala crankbait and on the first cast of the day, bam, landed a three pound bass. Caught a short just a little later. Next thing I know thunder starts rumbling around. Checked the radar on the phone and it showed a storm headed our way. We loaded the boat and came home. Checked the radar again and the storm had dissipated. Never, ever shall I land a fish again if it bit on the first cast of the day.

What a momentum boost though, to land a 3lb fish on the first cast. There's been a few times when I would have given anything to land a 3 pounder on the first cast, lord knows the other hundreds of casts that day didn't catch anything, lol. I hate you got all loaded up and the storm fizzled out though, bummer!

My Dad always said to never land the fish if it bit on the first cast. Let the line go slack or even cut it but never bring that fish in the boat. Daddy always knew best.

We have been caught in some pretty bad storms at Green, both spring snow and spring/summer rain! I know several folks who buy into the don't catch a fish on your first cast rule....I don't but then again I like bananas and take those on the boat as well. I just don't believe that stuff.

Hahaha.....I bet Charles B. cast like he swings a golf club.

Man I had it bad back when I fished alot of Tournaments in Florida. I had my favorite shirt and ring I had to wear and if I didn't win I could blame the blue bird skies, wind or lack of, fishing pressure, wrong bait or my partner! Was never my fault!!

In my thinking you are SUPPOSED to catch one on the first cast. The first cast of the day, the first cast under a dock, the first across a submerged stump. Are you fishing or just testing the action on your lure?

Funny, I've noticed the same thing with bait. If I get all the bait I need with the first cast of my throw net, I'm in for a long day of slow fishin. Now if it takes me all day to catch bait, I'll get a biggun.

    thunder storms

For some reason, fish go nutz just before a storm strikes. Go back right after it passes, and nothing.

Just like at the end of the day we'll make just one more cast before quitting. If we screw up the last cast we'll make another, if we catch a fish on the last cast, we'll make several more cast before quitting.

I had a black cat walk over a broken mirror under a ladder one time, didn't seem to cause a problem.
