Covered Boat Storage - Advice Needed

I am moving my boat out of the garage and into covered boat storage (open on the front). I live on the east end of town but can store it anywhere within reason. I look for suggestions on locations to store as well as the following:

    1) Does anyone have a recommendation for covered boat storage?
    2) Any suggestions for reducing the amount of weathering / wear from outside covered storage?
    3) Any recommendations for avoiding mildew when you put it up after fishing for a day in the rain?
    4) Any other pointers or insight would be greatly appreciated
    5) I would consider completely enclosed storage if anyone can suggest a location. I have had no luck finding enclosed storage where you weren't paying $150+ a month

    Thanks in advance.

    RE: Covered boat storage

I am constantly looking for inexpensive covered storage. Everything I've seen close to Louisville is expensive, (more than $150/mo) There are some close to Nolin, Rough River etc. that are around $50/mo. I don't know of the quality of these units. I've seen some people rent out spaces in a barn or warehouse for winter storage for $25-30/mo., but they want you to put the boat in and leave it till spring (no access), and pay for the entire period up front. These were in Shelbyville and Indiana. I store my boat outside at an upholstery shop in the South End with a cover. It's fenced in and someone is usually there. It's $25/mo. It's the best deal I've been able to find. Good Luck.

Thanks for the note. I have found a few in Louisville that are covered but not enclosed. They are in the 75 to 85 per month range.

I hear you about putting the boat up after a day in the rain. I used to keep my boat where work. If I brought it in wet I could put a cheap window fan in there for a day or two to dry it out and then turn it off because I was there. I now keep the boat in a boat shed at the lake. Without the fan it can take 4 to 5 days to dry out or even longer. That is to be very hard on a wooden deck not to mention mildew problem.

I am looking for but have not been able to find a timer that would run 30 to 48 hours and then shut the fan off. The reason for wanting the fan to shut off by itself should be obvious.

I purchased such a timer at Granger along time ago that ran for eight hours.

If anybody knows to find such a time or please let us know. Please post here if you know where a timer can be found. A PM would be helpful also in case I miss the post.
