    Harrington or Taylorsville?

I can't decide where I want to go sunday and/or Monday. I have never been to either one of these lakes but would like to try both of them out. Does anybody know how crowded these lakes get on busy weekend like this? That will probably be the deciding factor as I don't really want to be dealing with pleasure boaters all day. How is the bass fishing in both lakes?

both lakes are crowded on holidays , more so on hot ones , one good thing about herrington is you can get into some no wake areas and still catch fish. plus try getting to herrington at first light it can be real good between 6 and 7 am. good luck might see you out there on monday if its raining.

Alright thanks! I might have to give it a try. You don't really ever hear anything about these lakes but I'm always down to try something new! I will be in the blue and white fish and ski probably with my engine cowl off cusing up a storm! that seems to be the way of things if I'm more than 2 hours from home.

Given those 2 choices I say Taylorsville all the way. Herrington has all sorts of crap floating around in it due to all the unregulated docks. Plus it is very narrow, not many coves, and a ton of marinas with no wake zones. At least on Taylorsville there are plenty of coves to get into.

    Unhappy

If I had to go to either of these lakes with the crowds this weekend, I'm going at night. Made that mistake only one time, that was all needed. Herrington fishes better at night anyways. Taylorsville, maybe some one else is catching them better then I am right now, not hard to do. Maybe someone will add that info if so. If Herrington is full of trash it can be dangerous at night. You really want to move slowly if so. If you've never fished Herrington, it be different then just about any other lake that you have fished. Herrington is mostly bluff walls (intimidating). Crankbaits and texas rig big worms worked best for me. There is also a full moon this week, so you might want to try a craw of some sort. Good Luck

Do you guys have any other suggestions? I am trying to stay within 2 hours from home so I think that leaves me with cave run, harrington, taylorsville, the Ohio, or KY river around Frankfort. I have never fished the KY river and haven't heard anything about anyone fishing it so I am not sure how navagible it is by boat. I have fished the Ohio around Meldah dam quite a bit.

NKY takes in a lot of space. If the ramp is open there is Corinth and not to far out of Lawerceburg, KY there is Beaver Lake. Beaver is a little on the small size and may have HP restrictions. There is another nice little lake off of 75 N but I can't recall the name of it at the moment. Definately north of Corinth. Just a single free ramp.

There's four lakes just off I75 North (between Lex & Cincy) ... Corinth, Boltz, Williamstown, & Bullock Pen. Corinth, Boltz, Bullock Pen, & Beaver have 10hp limit. I believe they can be fished with a bigger motor as long as it isn't used (not even to trailer the boat !! ). I don't believe Williamstown Lake has a HP restriction, but there's also more "traffic" there.

I actually made the mistake of going to williamstown last year on Memorial day... that will never happen again. Imagine 500 boats on a lake that is big enough for maybe 100. Then throw in the fact that the bank is lined with docks. Oh and did I mention that most of the boats are mastercrafts or Malibu's that run around with their rear water tanks fulll pulling a tuber... Yea my boat will never touch that water again.

EDIT: Oh and did I mention that I had the guy that runs one of the marina's tell me I wasn't allowed to put my boat in the water because I have a blue boat and the registration tags last year were blue...

    Talking All the same .....

I'm gonna give Williamstown a try, Saturday ... LOL !!! Yeah, I've read about the "excessive" traffic & dangerous actions of the boaters on that lake ... but, I'm hoping that air temps of 40-60deg will hold them off for the first half of the day.

Since when does a "marina owner" have ANY say so about what boats use a free (State owned) ramp, on a State Owned Lake ... regardless of what color the boat or tag is ??? I think I would have asked him what color boat I should buy, that wouldn't be the same color as any of the yearly tags ... LOL !! right before I launched the boat, anyway !!

Might want to see about trying Guist Creek Lake. It is small too but a lot of no wake area.

Taylorsville would be the best but I would launch at Van Buren, fish up river and stay out of the main lake. Up past Van Buren you shouldn't run into many if any pleasure boaters.

That's a good point. I don't see many of the pleasure boaters up lake like I do around main lake and ****. The sound systems those guys have in there boats is quite amazing, and annoying as hell when your trying to get into your zone!!
