Believe me I'm not laughing I like the way you express yourself we know where you stand. (okay I laughed some)
I don't like it that Illinois is turning loose otters and bobcats and they will not admit it when you ask them they are like Holder and Obama they lie to you and then two or three years later it come out that they did relocate these animals. In my way of thinking when they don't admit what they are doing they know it is wrong and stupid.
I am hoping the otter does not stay if he does he will probably run into a .222
Haven't been enough this year to make a judgement, but last year was my best year ever for numbers and size of smallmouth. The creeks, and one stretch of river I fish regularly were great.
I'll add this though, another creek that used to be my favorite has really fallen off the past few years. Last time I was there (3yrs ago) I saw a family of otters.
Good post.....It's not everywhere and there are still fish and in some cases and area's it's still good to at times great. But there are areas that use to be great that are now dead and so on.Haven't been enough this year to make a judgement, but last year was my best year ever for numbers and size of smallmouth. I do agree with what you said and it was a nice caviat to add to this thread and makes me feel a little better about the future but I still have bigtime concerns...
I've posted this information in other threads previously; but I'll say it again. Eagle Creek near our property in Owen Cty SHOULD be loaded with fish. Perfect conditions. The reality is that it is a ghost town and the only thing I can with any regularity is rock bass. Local land owners have confirmed Otters cleaning out the creeks and their ponds.
Not really sure how to fix this. I guarantee if we could remove the Otters, the fishery would be back in a few years.

I live on south Elkhorn in and I thought I had a problem with otters just this year. Turns out it is the Mexican workers seining the creek of everything! I found two nets hidden in a bush and got rid of them. On the otter front, my father in law lives on Eagle Creek and it used to be full of nice smallies and catfish. Now, you are lucky to even see a small pumpkinseed! 10 years ago I went down there and caught a 15 lb blue catfish on a 1/16oz beetle spin, and now can't get a hit from anything. I also know of other farmers where the otters have cleaned out their ponds that are close to the creek.

Joey, I have been fishing Floyd's fork for the last 7 years and have only run into one beaver or otter. That was last week kayaking. The fishing several weeks ago was amazing but we were run out of there by storms. We immediately caught a nice smallie and a decent redeye/warmouth using cut up baitfish caught with a casting net. I was fishing off to the side of the swift water along the grass line. The fish were coming out of the grass absolutely killing the bait. Of course I'm not saying the exact spot but where I was fishing was about 50 yards up from the kayak launch on echo trail. This has always been my favorite fishing and I have never seen any predators to the fish in that area. I hope you can find this spot and slay em just like I have been! Good luck!!
I couldn't agree more regarding the otters. They are destroying the local fisheries. Spawn time floods haven't helped either. There's also been an increase in tournaments locally, that I'm sure have pressured them into lock jaw. I wonder if the culprit that reintroduced the otter is still employed with the kdfwr?I don't know where you fish and out of respect I won't ask but I agree 100%. Creek fishing is on the decline in many areas due to several reasons. Some due to poor spawn classes in some areas over the last few years. I feel personally the OTTERS are devasting the creeks. The KDFWR needs their flippin heads examined for releasing Otters back into our water ways. They are eating machines and I have read one adult Otter can eat as much as 10 plus fish per day...EVERY DAY. Now take that they reproduce like Rabbits and there is a serious issue. Whom ever thought this was a good idea to release them should be fired because they made a HUGE mistake.
I also feel the human pressure on the creeks in getting outragreous as well and alot of these bank bangers eat everything they catch. Amish, Mexicans and some others keep everything and they have no idea and don't care what the size or creel limit is, they JUST EAT THEM.
Rant concluded. Sorry you asked, lol..
Man I'm just glad I'm not the only one peeved by the otter reintroduction project.
4 to 5 pounds of fish.........A DAY.
No worries though I'm sure it's all hognose suckers and bluntnose minnows.
