    Warning about New Albany,IN ramp

For some unknown reason, powers that be have dumped a lot of big rock on the river side of the ramp. I mean trailer frame grabbing rock, a whole pile of it.

Anybody here know if the ramp caved in or what the reason is for this?

You'll be alright if you stay completely on the Indiana shore side of the ramp.

I really think that the ramp is caving in on that river side! That's why I don't use that ramp. Just my two cents! lol

That ramp cost me a bunch of money couple years ago. Not worth the risk especially at low water levels. Need a new ramp like Clarksville....

I'm guessing that the pushboats with a tow that wait there under 1/2 power for their turn at the locks or to clear the channel for southbound traffic have something to do with it. The pushboats waiting there maintain power to keep their heading, and to stay positioned. When it's their turn to head for teh loack, they wick up the power and it creates an amzing display of prop wash and current that eddies right below the ramp. Times I've been tehre, the pushboat propos seemed to be as little as 20 feet from the rip rap shore just 30-40 feet north of the ramp.

Add that to the high current, and I'd bet the rosck is being added to repair the rip rap, better protect the ramp, and to add a base so the ramp can be repaired. I'd bet New Albany's Board of Public Works and Safety would have some info but I can find decent contact info for them. Did find an email of [email protected] and sent an note to ask "whas up".

HURRICANEBOB, thanks for your thoughts on the ramp. Would you please keep us informed if you receive an answer to your e-mail?

I utilize the New Albany ramp because of it's closer proximity to my residence and the fact that it's a short boat run to where I like to cast for bait.

I appreciate the notes about the Clarksville ramp but I don't like to use that ramp because of the dam police that open up the gates which results in difficulty loading and unloading. Please note that dam did not contain an "n".

The rock pile is no longer there. I'm guessing that it was finalized graded out. I'm still going to launch from the Indiana bank side of the ramp.
