    Lightbulb zoom fluke

hi, I was just wandering how some of you guys fish a fluke for bass. I have never really fished one. Any information you guys have would be great, thank you!

Personally, I'm fond of the donkey rig. If I'm fishing a single, I work it much like a jerkbait.

When I use a fluke I throw it on a 3/0 worm hook without any weight.

I have difficulty rigging a fluke to keep it from spinning slightly on the line. I tie a small swivel on the line about 18 inches above the fluke to prevent line twist.

    fluke twist

most of the time fluke twist happens when the fluke ends up with a slight bend between the hook eye and where the bend of the hook comes up through the fluke, it happens when the fluke loses its original position on the hook from repeated casting , hook sets etc. to prevent the kink and keep the fluke straight I make a small slit about 1/8" where the bend of the hook goes through the body of the fluke, this keeps the fluke from binding up if the fluke slides. as for how to fish the fluke, I haven't found a wrong way yet lol. walk it on the surface with rapid twitches for surface bites at daylight. slow the twitch down and allow a couple seconds pause between twitches to fish it like a jerkbait. make a sharper single twitch and allow to drop 4-6 feet between twitches to simulate a dying/stunned shad. another way to fish the fluke when fish are holding in cover but chasing lures out , is to rig the fluke on a scrounger head and pitch it back in cover and rip, stop, rip, stop it back to the boat, big kys cant take it , they have to hit it lol. good luck.

Ditto what stripernut said with one addition if I see fish that won't commit ill reel fast on a long cast and actually cause the fluke to jump out of the water like a fleeing shad that's being chased then kill it,let it fall certain times they can't stand it.

Single hook rigging for better hookups

Another very good way to rig a fluke is to use a hook to push through the head & before running hook through again replace the wide gap with a treble & stick one barb through the back. Way better hookup ratio by far.
