    Night Fishing Baits

Night fishing is going to be in full swing before too long. What's everyone's favorite night bait for bass? Mines personally is a 10 inch Texas rigged worm.

I am actually looking into night fishing advice for night fishing because I have no experience. I usually use a five inch senko worm green color (green pumpkin watermelon etc) during normal day fishing and have pretty good success. Any advice? Must it be longer at night or will a 5 in Texas rigged worm work like it does in the daytime?

7 inch blue fleck fire tail worm or a black or black and blue spinnerbait with a single dark Colorado blade on it.

Let you in on a little secret, if your fishing a clear lake and the bite is tough a black & blue bitsy flipping jig from strike king is good. One with a trailer and sometimes without a trailer.

Do you know anything about cranking at night? Like what colors to use on what moon phases type of stuff?

Cranking works great at night but expect to be hung up a lot. My favorite is a Rapala Crankin Rap, Helsinki Shad or Green Crawdad colors. Crank them around edges and over cover. (if you can see it)

what i know is limited mostly to cumberland. moonlit nights i throw a bandit 200 series in the shad color, also on a moonlit night (on a couple of specific banks) a bomber model a in red crawfish. on dark nights or right before sunup i throw a bandit 200 series in root beer color. these are just confidence colors for me, ive had my tail whooped pretty bad on the same night in the same boat with the other guy throwing something completely opposite, but night in and night out these colors produce for me. last night after midnight i was casting the bandit for stripers and caught a 4.5lb sm, a 3lb lm and a 15 inch ky all on a 50 yd stretch of bank, but the shad were there in droves so the shad color was my go to bait, i probably wouldnt have thrown the craw color or the root beer color under those circumstances, but i wouldnt say they wouldnt have caught fish either. sweetwater was spot on about fishing/hitting the cover, if you can bounce it of something like a big rock and then killit for a count of 5 your strike rates goes way up, but be prepared to snag a few of those rocks. thats why i dont throw $20 custom cranks at night, the second reason is its dark.....i dont think they can differentiate between a store shelf paint job and a handpainted crank. there are a ton of other colors that work, im more concerned with where the fish are and how they want it retrieved.

Thanks you two for the info. I fish crankbaits a lot during day light but have heard stories of people filling the boat on certain moon phases and such but have never tried cranking at night. Never had much problems hanging cranks up because the will go over about everything including the middle of laydowns but could see were you might break the bills hitting the bank or rocks at night.

This is my absolute favorite to throw. Nothing better than seeing the glowing flourescent line swimming away from you. I also am big on buzzbaits and jitterbugs but have started throwing a spinnerbait a little bit more. I need to get a new blacklight for my boat as mine is at the bottom of Barren. Actually going to start a new thread about this.

You're right about that flourescent line, it looks like an anchor rope under the blacklight. You can see every little twitch it makes.
