Striped Bass in the Licking River

I was catfishing this weekend in the Licking River not far from Falmouth and caught 3 stripers. Heard others busting after dark but didn't have any hits. The largest one was about 18" on chicken liver. The river seems awfully warm and shallow for them to be there this time of year. Does the state stock them in the Licking River/Cave Run Lake or did they more than likely run up from the Ohio River? And just in case you don't believe me look at the pic. First striper I have ever caught.

That's a hybrid striper and it came up from the Ohio River, Using chicken liver is one of the best methods to catch them. they tolerate warm water very well just like white bass. Not unusual to catch them up that far up the Licking

If they came from the Ohio River how did they get past Cave Run dam?

He said he caught it around Falmouth which is along way down river from Cave Run Lake. I think you are mixed up on your directions

I thought that hybrids had more broken lines than that. Also, I thought it would be wider from back to belly.

Some will have more than other , For example caught one the other day that only had acouple of broken lines( 27 inches & 10 lbs +) Over the years have caught a ton of them. Broken lines are not the only way to tell the difference. The fish you have is starting to hump up behind the head. This becomes more pronounced as the fish ages. Coloring can also help to identify. Maybe some of the other guys that fish hybrids alot could weigh in here.

The Licking River dumps into the Ohio at Covington and Newport. So they most likely came from the Ohio River.
