Smallmouth Bass...Lake St. Clair

I stay on the north side on the river. I like fishing the river as well and the restaurants you can drive your boat up to and eat, Johny Leggas etc. There are quite a few hotels on the river but the one I stay at is

This is not the nicest hotel on the river by any means but they have a dock there and I can leave the boat in the water tied up and run and extension cord to it to charge up the trolling motors. I don't know of any others that you can do that, you have to load and unload every day. Its a very old couple that own it and operate it and always love a few bags of perch or walleye when I come back in. The state ramp is just 2 miles down the road.
The other I have stayed at is Anchor Inn but they don't have a boat dock. If you want to stay closest to where you fish for smallies at you stay in Mt. Clemens near the mile rds is where the small mouth mostly are.

Thanks for the info. Ill have to look at that place because having the dock would be really nice. Not to worried about staying at a real nice place just somewhere that's safe to sleep lol

Can I do it and be safe in my 19 ft aluminum tracker.........PT190.......90 horse.

Dragging tubes is what 95% of people do just throw a tube with about a 1/8 to 3/16 jig head in it on the bottom and drag it as the boat drifts. There are humps with weed beds and as you drag through the bass grab it. If they are aggressive then tubes of green with flake, mud puppy, watermelon, smoke etc work really well. If it is less windy and they are finicky the zoom hulla grubs work very good. Different brands of tubes work but Jans Net Craft is hands down the best tube for up there 3.5" salty tube. If its too windy and you cant stay on bottom you use a drift sock to slow your drift or you can use your trolling motor to control your drift. Braid with 10 lb fluorocarbon leader, its tough to use straight mono you wont feel the bites a lot of times.

Geo if it is not windy there would be no problem in your boat but put in on US side closest to where you are going like Clemmons, don't put in on the North side in river. There are a lot of big pleasure boats and freighters that make some big waves. You could do it but you would want to be much more cautious and careful.

For all of you going be aware of Canadian water vs US you have to have a Canadian license to fish Canada water, I didn't know doesn't cut it. There is also on the Canadian side and Indian reservation Walpole don't get caught fishing in there. You are on there turf and they can do what they want with you if you don't get a license. The fishing around the reservation if spectacular, its truly amazing compared to the lake which is really good. But you must have license and no taking pictures of the naked Indians jumping off the docks lol the chief don't like it.
