Smaller, Slower Boats

I remember when I fished KBF tournaments (before it got split up). If we were fishing the Ohio River at Carrollton a lot of guys would run to Louisville and if were launching in Louisville they would run to Carrollton. To me it seemed a waste of fishing time.

It just depends on the circumstances. I've seen where both ends come out on top before. It all boils down to how YOU fish and how YOU use your own boat.

There are guys in my club that have the big 21' dream boats and a few of them have the 12' fishing boats. While each has it's advantage. It all comes down to time on the water and experience. Most of the guys in the big boats jump from place to place and the small boats tend to fish more slowly and cover the area thourghly. At the end of the day what counts is how big your bag is not your boat..

I don't fish tournaments but fished from a 14ft aluminum v for a butt load a years and can definetly say boat size makes no difference. Can't tell you how many times I've pulled up to a ramp and gota look like u feel safe in that thing LOL. Then comes you catch anything and I say just one.....bout that time they have alot more questions like what u catch him on and where...lol They forget all about the size of my boat. I remember one time Mhall and I were pulling out we had caught a couple pushing 50 and an easy 60#+, the 60 wasn't do'n so well and I got in the water at the ramp to work with him while Mark got the truck. Well this big ole nice 40,000$ boat came backing down the ramp and the guy in the boat said what are you doing....I said noodleing ...then I sayes I GOT ONE and pulled the 60 out of the water......Man I wish I had a pic. of that guy's eye's when I pulled him out. LOL we got pic's and let them fish swim....IT was one of those priceless moments. Chuck

fishing by yourself, size doesn't matter. But when there's 2 or 3 people in the boat, it's much easier to fish out of the bigger rigs with more stability, storage, and room to move about. 6 can comfortably fish out of a pontoon boat, but it's a complete waste for 1 guy to fish out of a barge. I think the 18ft deep vee's with small decks are the most versatile boat out there.
