I went to a flea Saturday to sell some fishing tackle. this stuff was left from a yard sale up north before we moved here, and more was left fro the hy 90 sales. I had some of my striper trolling gear, and some stout bait casting outfits. the guy that bought my ugly sticks and Garcia large cap reels, showed me two pictures of cat fish he caught on the Tn river. I have never fished deliberately for cat fish. ave caught a lot trolling for bass and walleye, but never anything over 20 pounds. Those 5and 6 pounders below pickwick dam put up a good fight, cant imagine dragging a 40 0r 50 lb fish out of a current.
It's a blast for sure. I did a catfish trip with Fisheater a few years back and he took me the Ohio river. The current was pretty fast. After we anchored you could hear the water hitting the boat and the little foam trail formed behind the boat and it looked like we were moving fast from the wake behind us but it was the water moving not us.
I caught a 30+ in that current along with a few smaller ones and it really was alot of fun.
Im sure the crew from here (mhall, riverrat and tyme) that hits it on a regular basis has fished some stronger current than that.
