I am no pro on the subject but if it were my boat, all the gas would come out and be replaced, new plugs, new lower unit gear oil, and i would have a mechanic pull the carbs and check for any gumming and fix as needed. Probably then get all together and check my compression to make sure no big issues there. Then i would start it on some dog ears, let her run a bit at home, then take her to the lake and fish.

My boat sit outside for 2 years without using it and in 30 minutes in the driveway with the water hose and the plastic ear phone things you put over the water pump inlet I had it running with the old gas and have never looked back. Not saying you should replace the fuel but I didn't and so far so good have ran a couple of tanks through it since.

I would go here http://www.bbcboards.net/ and scroll down to the motor section and find your brand then pose your question. Sometimes just getting a outboard running doesn't mean all is well. With the price of motors these days I would take all precautions to do it right just my 2cents.

if it has more than one carberator and they don't flow the same you can destroy the motor.

If it had been bad gas you probably would have never ran the first tank out.

My brother borrow some mixed gas from his neighbor to put in a chain saw and that was the last of that saw. After it would not start anymore he took it to the saw shop and as soon as the guy pulled the cord to start it he ask if he had put old gas in it. It was old gas but the strange thing about it his neighbor said he used it in his weed eater or what ever and had no problem at all with it. You know I never thought a hold lot about it till I was making this post about him borrowing the gas but the saw he had he borrow it off me!

I would use fresh gas, but I have no idea how to get rid of your old gas.

Be absolutely sure your impeller and water pump are in good shape! Don't take the boat and check for stream,..have someone verify they are in good shape.

See if there's any way to "hand lube" the cylinder walls/rings. Over time, oil drains. Your top cylinder could get hot and get damaged on first start up.

If you have an oil pump, I would also "pre mix" until you can verify the oil pump is working. You'll be running a little rich, but that's fine. You can change plugs later.

Bottom line, you must be sure that your cylinders/pistons/rings are lubed AND your water pump/impeller is functioning. If not, you'll be looking at a $2000 rebuild. I recently bought a gently used boat, but it sat without being used.

After running in driveway or on ramp, Check compression. If all cylinders aren't close (within 20 lbs?) stop and find your issue!

definatly take out the plugs and give the cyl walls a shot of lube and hand turn the fly wheel to see if it will move, you don't want to break a ring, a little lube and gentle persuasion go a long way.
