I seriously doubt that because he uses slang words (which all of us do, just sometimes different kinds of slang) that is why he drove his boat improperly.

It goes to his general attitude. His holier than thou attitude. Most of those guys try to get something to set them appart. If that is what he chooses than so be it I don't have to like it, or him, or his attitude. They way I look at him he is no better than MIke Ike. I am not talking about his ability to catch fish, just the way he carries himself.

I would not want my kids to act like him on or off the water. I don't think that he is a positive role model for kids. People say that he gets younger kids into fishing. I grew up watching Hank Parker, Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston and they hooked me pretty good into the sport. With out all of that "SHINY JEWELRY."

    Sorry about the rant.

I know what you mean! But you forgot about Roland Martin, Orlando Wilson, Fish Fishburne, and even Mark Sosin. That was my television line up as a kid! The more the better, freshwater or saltwater!

I sure miss the crazy antics of Fish Fishburne.........as silly as he was, he was a great bass angler! I wish Team Grandma was still going strong!

Re: Swindle Day 2 Catch DQ'd

I have been reading thru all the comments about the G-Man being DQ'd and I wanted to provide some comments from my perspective. First, I think he got what he deserved for his actions. Totally uncalled for, dangerous, disrepectful and the list goes on and on. Would I have been pissed, you betcha ya. Probably would have run him down and gave him a peice of my mind. However, I was really disappointed in Gerald but we all make mistakes. What made it more difficult for me was I have spent some time with Gerald (one on one) and considered him a pretty good guy. Not saying that I know him as a friend or anything but I think a lot of what you see of him on TV is all about marketing himself and that is how he draws all those big sponsors. Is he cocky, yep. Does he run his mouth, yep. Like him or not, until now he has been a very marketable person for several major brands.

My second comment is around his boat driving during the classic. For those of you who have never been in a Bassmaster Pro Tour event, he was right on when he said they drive them like they "sold 'em". At take off you have a couple hundred Pro's with their toes up in the carboratur running just as dangerous, sometimes more dangerous as Gerald trying to get to their honey hole before someone else. The speeds at take off are a lot faster and there are a lot more boats especially before the elite series. The take off at Guntersville last year was just about as wild of a ride as I have been on in a Bass Boat, both days. Therefore, been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Wrecks do occur. Not saying it was justified but where do you draw the line? Camera boats are at those events as well but nothing ever gets said about that.

Again, not saying what he did was right at all but I think there is a little more to consider here in shooting someone down just because they made a mistake. I personally think if they are going to enfore the rules like they did on Gerald then they need to re-evaluate their entire take off procedure.

Re: Swindle Day 2 Catch DQ'd

I Was Actually In The Boat With Gerald That Same Morning, And Before The Incident Changed Spots W/ The Camera Man, On The Ride Back To The Coliseum, With Only Me And Him, He Admitted To Being Close... But The Actual Situation, That Was Not Explained Was, He Had The River Channel, Very Shallow, On The Right, Camera And Media Boats In The Middle, And Randy Howell On The Left, And Randy Actually Signaled Him To Come On, He Made The Split Second Decision To Do What He Did, And He Regrets It, He Was Really Down, On The Feeling He Let His Fans And Sponsors Down, But From A Behind The Scenes Stand Point, I Think Trip Was A Little Harsh On The Punishment, Swindle Handled This With Class, And I Am Now A Bigger G-man Fan Than Ever...............

None of these guys are what you think they are, they are human....just like the rest of us. You are right, you don't have to like him or his attitude.

As far as kids, it is the parents responsibility to raise them and teach them how to act, not a fisherman, basketball player etc. Most of the people that complain about guys like Swindell, Ike, Skeet etc. are old school. So am I to a point.

I just don't get why if you don't act like a Denny Brauer or someone like that, you becaome a bad person.

I also don't get why people spend so much time talking about people that they have never spent any time with, and passing judgement on them because of a 30-second clip they saw on TV!

End of my rant, I am done with the subject. Let's go fishing!

No, if a Professional T.V. personality says bling-bling or starts singing rap, trying to dress like a thug, trying to intimidate fellowanglers then i feel he is misled. It just surprises me that this whole portrayed lifestyle he loves is from the Ghetto/Prison system and that men who make tons of money (fishing no less!) have to grab hold of this as an image. I expect this image from the rap artist's because thats their audience not a white boy from Alalbama. I don't like it (it's a joke to the utmost degree) and if you do thats your choice.... He handled his boat the way he did because he used poor judgement (again). We just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Re: Swindle Day 2 Catch DQ'd

I was there and heard some dock talk from observers, who saw and heard what went down. Swindle was a litte po'd at Howell, supposedly, but he was pretty jacked up due to he had a huge sack with a hawg kicker, and yea he broke down and had a bad, as Skeet said, brain fart, but he made a bad mistake that could have cost him the classic, but I don't think that kind of disqual would be staged like I have seen mentioned, it was a litte too risky, he was pretty close, he threw water on the deck of the camera boat and rocked Howell pretty good, so live and learn and kids dont try that at home,it could cost you 500 grand.

well i hate to say it but it happens at all levels wether you listen to rap or not.I was in the river well above wax 2 years ago at the renegade tourney,
my partner and i got sprayed not one but 3 times,i know who did it and i doubt they listen to rap.all three drive bys were well above 50mph yeah i know the river was narrow but i idled for at least a half mile past other boats.
especially in the shallow channel you never know what may have came down
river and lodged.i ain't saying he was right i feel it was a bad judgement call
and maybe it calls for some action to get the spectators to give a litlle room.I have seen some virtually troll along with the pro close enough to jump in his boat.

Re: Swindle Day 2 Catch DQ'd

I know I'm gonna get slammed for this, but I would personally like to see someone kick his ass on the dock on film. He thinks he's a Gangsta, so let somebody beat him down like one. The only thing that guy has got that I like is a really good looking wife, and I'm not sure how he got her because he acts like a punk. I wish Zell Rowland a couple of years ago would have kicked the tar out of him for acting like he owned the whole lake. What a big baby, this new breed of bass fisherman justs wears me out.

You know, I just see two different men here....If you watched the Bass Tech Show, he seemed like a very likeable guy on that show...I've seen him a few times on film during tournaments and it seems like he is a Jeckel & Hyde caracter of sorts...Totally changes attitudes while fishing in a tournament.... Just my observation....
