    Need Help!!

My dad has found an old boat that is for sale and we wanted some experience boaters input. Dad has never boat or owned a boat so any info. would greatly be appreciated. Dad stopped at an antique sale and they had boat in a garage covered up and dad inquired. This is what dad was told about the boat. 1971 Caravel (Caravelle) tri-hull (bass boat), 15' 1/2", with 55 HP Fisher Pierce Motor (power trim???) and old trolling motor. The story behind the boat is the father bought the boat new in '71 and died in 1980. The daughter took it out only 1 time after 1980 and it has sat in a garage covered up ever since. Dad thought he might have found something, like and old car someone put up. But I am concerned about the motor starting or running. I would think that the motor would be bad and the rings dry rotted. The family priced it at $2000, which I thought was way to high. Any feedback from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

sounds high in unused condition. Never heard of that motor, could be hard finding parts. IF the motor has sat, the carburator(s) will definitely need rebuild, fuel pump replaced. fuel tanks cleaned out or replaced. motor could be siezed, and should not be turned over without putting 2 cylcle oil in spark plug holes and turning it over with a wrench on the flywheel nut. the water pump will be replaced. lota of fubber parts will be dryrotted without maintenance.

If he is not a do it yourselfer, he'll probably have to put $1000 dollars into it just to use it I guess you're really wondering if its an antique. and that I can't say. I know there are still motors from the 50's that are in operation today, so its really not that old.

Thanks for the reply. Dad was wanting to use it to fish with. I did tell him I thought if they sat a long time many parts would be bad. I also thought the price was high as well. Thanks for the input. I will pass it along to dad.
