I am a hunter also and have many guns. Last time I read the Constitution's forth amendment is said we have the right to bear arms. I didn't read anything about any exceptions to that part of the Constitution. Only though Judaical Action over the past 200 years has that part of the US Constitution been diluted.

Now as far as I am concerned you can't change the US Constitution though Judicial Action. It's not suppose to work that way.

If someone wants to change a part of the US Constitution then they should get it ratified by the States like they are suppose to. Not by appointing Judges who will change the meaning of words written over 200 years ago.

If people want to regulate Arms then they need to change the US Constitution to get rid of the Fourth amendment before they can regulate arms. Arms being any weapon.

The founding fathers were not just writing the US Constitution for their time but for all times in the future.

Now they could not for see the development of Stinger Missiles or AK47's but they didn't have to.

It's up to the US Citizens (if they wish) to change the Constitution and until that happens we should be free to own and BEAR any arms we want to. Our right to have and to BEAR arms was meant to keep the people safe from an oppressive government. The founding fathers has just freedom themselves from an oppressive government and they knew what that meant. They could never have broken with King George without owning and bearing arms. They knew exactly why they wrote the 4th amendment.

If this government ever gets to the point where it can oppress it's citizens then those citizens have a right to stand up and fight for their god given rights.

I'll stand up for the 4th amendment every time and I am a proud Democrat.

The Best thing that George Washington did was to give up the Presidency after two terms and let someone else serve in that office. He set a precedent on term limits. He did the right thing.

I disagree with Scalia. Nothing in the 4th amendment says that there is a limit on gun ownership. In fact the 4th amendment says nothing about limiting arms. It only said that you have the right to own and bear arms.

Where does Scalia or any other justice have the right to rewrite the US Constitution? They should not have that power. They can run on whether it's constitutional or not but they can't write their own laws. IMHO.

Judicial activism is raising it's head when Scalia says that the rights are not unlimited. Can he show us were in the constitution is said we are limited in our right to own and BEAR arms? He can't do that because that's not what the founding fathers wrote into our constitution.

Read the words that are on the parchment not what you think should be on the parchment.

I have no problem with that at all. And really, the old argument that 'the right to keep and bear arms' clause refers to the militia, not the people, doesn't make sense. Why would we need it written into the Constitution that the army is allowed to carry guns? And even if, as Breyer said, handgun crime is out of control, that's not relevant to the question of whether this law was constitutional or not.

Now, it's going to be really interesting to see what happens to crime rates in D.C., and also how those crime rates are reported in the media. And as I watch, I'll be keeping in mind that "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."

I'm a gun owner, and I myself dont think I could carry one all the time, sometimes a second of anger can cause serious consequences. If some turkey defending himself, shot one of mine, even by accident, I would personaly hold him responsible. The right to bear arms does not mean indiscriminate use of them.Protecting your self or a loved one, is justifiabe. Shooting someone across the street for stealing your gas is not!

I'm a gun owner as well. I love to go and shoot sporting clays, skeet and an occasional trap. Hunting is in my blood and I hope we never lose these rights. I do not carry my pistol for many reasons but in my house she is my last line of defense!

I agree. Having the right to own and bear arms also comes with responsibility.

I don't own a pistol ...yet. But with the way this country is going I may buy one someday soon. But that means it comes with a huge responsibility.

I would only shoot at somone if they started shooting at me first or they tried to break into my house. Then I would defend myself and make sure that when they fell down that it was inside my house.

Here in IN we can shoot someone that's breaking into our homes.

But we can't shoot the neighbors dog if it's pooping in our yard.

I wonder if we can shoot the dog if it's attack us? I would hope so.

I only have two dogs in the neighborhood that I am worried about and they are both owned by the local drug dealers. I just wish the State Police would put them in prision and lock them up for good instead of letting them back out after a few weeks in the pokey.

You would like the right to shoot a dog for pooping in your yard?

For pooping dogs get a BB gun. That "trains" them pretty quick and doesn't really harm the dog. Eventually, just the sound of the BB gun's air with no BBs loaded will get them running. Don't ask me how I know this!!!

Re: Your 2nd Amendment rights upheld (barely)

This goes for many topics but look at other countries who have banned guns. Britian still has gun crimes even though they have been banned for 80 years(the bad guys still have them) they still have major crimes and now knives are the weapon of choice for the recent killings. Their crime rate has climbed in leaps and bounds. Are they going to ban those knives next? Once you go down the road of Government controlling/telling you whats best for you it never ends.
    Can you say Healthcare? Taxes?

Well, well! You and I "practice" the same type of animal control. I've also found that it moves cats away from my bird feeder.

Re: Your 2nd Amendment rights upheld (barely)

I believe in the rights provided in the 2nd amendment, but I also believe we lost those rights a long, long time ago. What is the difference if we're still allowed to have a handgun, but the government has jets, rockets, tanks, nuclear bombs, etc.? Can a handgun or a rifle really protect us from a tyrannical government or potential invasion?

yes it can! An armed populace will find a way to defend itself. They just have to be carefull picking the targets.
