If CAFE standards apply to ALL vehicles, I can just imagine the presidential limousine being about the size of a VW Beetle with all those secret service agents glued to the outside of the doors with velcro. That would be as funny as heck.

Looking into my crystal ball, I see traffic jams of ATV's towing jon boats with 18-wheel Ford Rangers coughing diesel into some faces. I'm having a nightmare, I just saw me driving a Barbie Corvette!

Lawn mowers are sure to be included somewhere in those regulations. I think I will go into the lawn care business.

Question ? Does a car a truck have to be smaller and less powerful to be more fuel efficent? Does it now. Most of poor milage is due to fuel delervey systems injectors carbs etc. They way vehicles are designed now they do not maximize the fuel delivery system to make better milage. Also it can be dome to make just as big and powerful trucks that get good milage, they have Fords that get 21 Tundras that get 18/19. ten more miles a gallon should come easy. If we can put junk into space and have all the technoldgey we have today, We should be able to do this. We have had the tech for years but why bother.

Sooo. it's happening huh Grump?....soooo, I guess the auto engineering guru's are going to figure out how to make a vehicle that WILL tow? They're going to have to aren't they? I'm not saying what Grumpy says isn't true, because it probably is true...but in my own opinion I think the American people own way to many boats, way to many horse trailers, way to many campers/fifth wheels, to many race cars that have to be towed, to many lawn services haul their equipment all over town with trailers...I guess by 2016 or whenever Nobama says, I guess that's a real enough date...I guess it's gonna happen huh? (maybe)...I mean is this 2016 Bolony a "goal" or is this something that is firm, set in stone and the criteria must be met or hefty fines will be paid by the automakers who do not meet the standards? I'm not about to trade in my 97 Chevy...forget it...I like it and it likes me...I'm going to take good care of it for as long as possible because it may very well be the last true american classic I own. Since it has a 350 small block and a 4-wheel drive it doesn't get that great of gas mileage, but I don't care, I truly like my truck.

Now on a separate note, not meaning to steal the thread but since the topic is automobiles I figured I'd place this post on this thread. My neighbor who owned a full size 2007 Dodge this morning just pulled in the driveway this evening with a new 2009 Toyota Tundra. According to what he tells me he says all the latest talk about Dodge/Chrysler dealers being shut down kind of had him spooked, says he didn't know what he was going to do if he had to have mechanical work done on it, says the place he bought his Dodge truck (Coyle Dodge in Southern, IN) is one of the dealers going out of business, etc....soooo, even though we have a Chevy dealer within 7 miles of us, and even though we have a Ford dealer within 10 miles of us, he chose to purchase a G.D. *&^($#@!!! Toyota! I know some of you guys here like your "foriegn-owned-built-on-American-soil" vehicles...and that's fine (I guess), even though I don't understand it, it's fine....but it's also fine for me to despise them with the utmost hatred in the world, it's a free country, right?

Long story made short...the CAFE standards might happen but I think the towing capacity will be there because there's to much at stake otherwise. Sorry for being long winded on this one, I guess my neighbor sent me over the edge this evening.

    Peace!

Being built here means American jobs. Many "American" auto makers have a lot of their work done overseas (non-American jobs). Americans working is a good thing.
