Cave Run Bass

Hit the Cave in the evenings this past weekend. Bass seemed to be turning on pretty well a couple hours before dark. Threw various cranks (shallow, medium, deep), spinnerbaits, and topwaters (spook, props, etc.). Topwater were the only ones to get hit. Walk them a few feet, pause a few seconds, walk some more, etc. seemed to get the most hits. Smaller props in the 3 inch range were the prefered target. Many of the bass (mostly LM, a couple of spots and one smallie) were off the banks a ways (20-40 yards out). Rock banks. The bass off the banks were chasing bait. Had a few short lived jumps where 3-5 bass would beat on a school of bait for a minute. If you were close enough to get a cast in as soon as you saw it, you got hit. About 30 minutes before sundown, a black jitterbug worked well. A few bass after dark on the jitterbug, but they really seemed to slow down once it got dark. Just before dark and after, they were up closer to the bank. Saturday evening did the best. Put 15-20 in the boat. Three in the 3-4# size. Probably a couple other keepers in there too. All got a quick tour of the boat and then released. I'm no pro on the Cave, so there were probably other methods that worked too. The above were what worked for me.

Mr Kettle Yeah, them stripers gave me such a hard time this spring I had to find something else to put a bend in the rod. Figured beavers were out....

But Beavers fight really well, it's just the hand to hand bank combat that is the problem.
