    Re: Seat Belts for Boats

I would like to have the seatbelt option. Many more injuries due to being thrown from the boat than there a instances of boats flipping over.

it would not be difficult to adapt a car racing harness. I don't think you guys have any idea how much abuse your backs are going to take by being tied in. Unless you have a real suspension seat you are going to be beat to death. I'm guessing billm_usa1 didn't have your standard bass boat seat in his 150 MPH hydroplane.

drive with common sense would cure most of the problem..these 2 only help after the fact you have driven the boat past its intended use..i'd say if your arse is jumping out the seat and your being tossed around you need to trim the motor down a little amd slow down.

Clearly the is the proper way to go about it. You still won't catch me on the water without both on.

    Re: Seat Belts for Boats

Thank you for your response's. The reason about being thrown about is from other boat wakes or big waves, not from going to fast for conditions. I know that I would use them in rough water or wakes if I had them. Not worried about the flipping over just want to stay in the seat and save my ass. I talked with a orthopedic surgeon and he said that lots of injuries are caused from spine compression due to the body coming down when the boat seat is going up. Well it was just a thought, now I have to figure out how to attach them in my boat...

    TADA!!!!!!!!
AND THE WINNING ANSWER FORM THE EXTREME GENIUS GUY IS:

    DRUM ROLL: TATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATAT-CHA-CHING!

"The kill switch shall be mounted in the driver's seat as a pressure sensitive device. The kill switch will be so designed so that your ARSE has to be in the seat, or the engine will automatically drop to 1/4 throttle. A driver running 60 mph that hits a high wave or another boat, causing his ARSE to be forcibly lefted from the seat, will experience his throttle chopped to 1/4 until such time as his ARSE comes back incontact withe the weight sensitive seat switch. The "ARSE ACTIVATED" 1/4 throttle switch will not work at throttle settings of 1/4 throttle or less, thereby allowing folks who need to idle their boat without their ARSE attached to the seat as it should be to do so. "

Available now at Walmart, Walgreens, K-mart, and that little store at the corner of 4th and Main whose sign blew down last month and the dumb ARSE owner has not put back up yet.

After racing for 2 years being strapped in and 14 years before that of not, I do reccomend the seatbelts if your doing over 60mph. Things happen quickly like rogue waves and such. The best place to be is in the boat if there is anytype of accident. It is rare and I mean very very rare that a boat ends up upside down. If there is an accident your most likely to be found in the boat or with the boat. Many times we've read about an empty boat found floating and the driver and passenger(s) no where to be found. Just think back to this spring , a seatbelt probably would have saved a life.
    So do PFDs!!!

I once saw a coast guard, or some rescue personnelle guy say that they had never, and that is a long time, retrieved the corpse of a drowned guy that had a life jacket on. I suspect those lone boats would have still been found, but the guys who were driving them would have been found too, had they had life jackets on.

It still amazes me how many people run wide open with no PFD on.

Oh btw, don't hydroplane boats have a cockpit? I suspect these also provide some type of air bubble, if only for a short period, should they leak, if the boat did capsize. And besides that, hydroplane boats are not semi-v hulls like bass boats. The flat bottoms of the hydroplane leads to many more "airborne" experiences than are seen in bass boats.

    Just my observations.

    Good topic though.

Etech, the issue is that if the waves are too big, be them from the wind and natural current, or the wakes of a boat, and the afore mentioned too big of a wave is throwing you about, and out of your seat, then I would agree with catfishwhisker (spelled name way wrong). Trim that motor down, and slow down. I've only been in high performance boats for a few years, 15-20, but my limited experience, compared to many on this board, is that I trim my motor down, lowering my bow, reduce my speed, and take the wakes in an appropriate manner to make sure I STAY in my seat.

Gotta love HB's ARSE SEAT KILL SWITCH though. Had me laughing the whole post.

    hey etec
do not get mad at me but the guys on the ranger board of another site say they run ranger boats 65 mph in 4 and 5ft rollers and drink coffee during blast off,you shouldn't have any compression problems.....are you planning on going to the berring{sp} sea crabbing with that 205? just funnin ya.actually rick clunn discussed that on a show of some sort,he said when he made long runs in bad water he put one leg,or roll up a jacket under his butt.he doesn't use a foot throttle, says they cause more fatigue,he is also the reason nitro boats came out with the higher seats.when your butt, lower back is the lowest point it gets all the pressure, putting your lower back, butt even with or above your thighs you are distributing the pressure all the way to,through, your feet.food for thinking..i use my throw cusion because my leg goes to sleep,it does help.even if the water isn't rough..
