Get the Shimano. I am biased, but I guarantee you won't be disappointed. What model are you looking at?
One word: SHIMANO!!!!!!!!!
Just got back from getting one. Pretty sweet deal.
For the money, you may want to check out the BPS Johnny Morris reels. I love 'em...
Very True I have had the new Johnny Morris Signature series II in high speed model ( the black one) and I love that it has the old fashioned centrifiugal brake along with a super adjustable spool tensioner and magnetic brake it is almost idiot proof ( I know I have been considered the village idiot many a time) spooled with Trilene 12# flourocarbon and I am starting to favor it over my 1st generation Abu Revo STX without the new centrifugal brake,spooled with 20# power line braid,it casts more accurateley less backlashes lighter lures and reels a lot smoother about the only down fall is I don't like the drag as much as the STX's it is very noticalble when you set the hook on a large fish over 5#'s again this is just my opinion and I have Abu's since the late 70's Sorry I don't have any experience on Shamino's other than a few spinning reels from the late 80's![]()
great guys that will help all your needs

I used the johnny morris gold a lot last year. If the johnny morris II is the model im thinking of, its the same exact thing except for a carbon handle on the new one.
Anyways the reel was awesome, honestly smoother than my revo premier. It outcasted vientos, and curados easily. Was probably my favorite reel to use, but at one point in the season the reel suddenly just stopped casting. The spool wouldnt really spin right for some reason. Idk what caused it, but I took it back to bps and they gave me my money back no questions asked. Was a pleasure to deal with.
Honestly, it was one of my favorite reels ever. And I only paid 105 during the reel trade in.
One of the coolest looking reels too.

Honestly, I think it's one of, if not the best performing reels at $160.Just some thing I pulled off another message board;

Shimano homers will groan about that, but I'd rather have a Johnny Morris signature series II than I would a Curado E or G. The main knock on the JM other than costmetic gripes, is part support. However, since they've not changed the guts in years, you should be able to find any of the typical parts of it that do wear for a few years anyway (and really, that's about how long for any reel now with the shorter product cycles we're seeing).
I should say that I've technically not used the signature series II (only the JM Gold, which is the same reel save cosmetics and the handle).
I would put the JM up with the Revo STX at least.
