i have a closet full of rods and reels i have gathered over the years and some are shimano, garcia and plhuger. the best two purcahses i ever made were first i got two curado's of ebay last year and for christmas my son bought me a revo premier. every one has a different opinion but mine is that theese reals are almost equal except for size and feel. either way you go you wont be dissapointed. both companies have stood the test of time and make a quality product. they havent been around this long for nothing.

only thing is i recomend staying away from the low end revo. the STX,or Premier, and the higher end ones are much better than the cheaper model.

i also have been using Pluhger reels here lately. got a great deal on a purist and a presibdent on ebay and they have performed well also. the new patriarc model is supposed to be right up there with the shimano's and garcias.

I use shimano but have friends that use abu. Both are going to be good reels as long as you don't go with the cheapest models. Your best bet is to go and palm both reels. Buy the reel that feels better in your hand. You will be holding the reel all day and don't want one that will be rubbing you in the wrong spot or just doesn't feel right.

I have a garcia 2500c made in 1976 have had no problems with it. Personally I like the Johnny Morris elite series, or the signature series.

I have a couple of the 2003-04 Shimano Curados and really like them especially 200BSF. I was thinking about trying a new ABU Garcia Revo Premier.

You can get the $20.00 rebate back from ABU Garcia

    or

ABU Garcia also has a free Wiley X sunglass offer (worn by Skeet Reese) with the purchase of a reel 159.95 or higher. The sunglasses are a normal $125.00 + value. You can choose from two different styles....

I really need a new pair of good sunglasses.....

    FYI
Tackle Warehouse has the Revo STX on sale for $139.00. Then you can send in your $20 rebate and you only pay $119 for the STX which is originally $199.

well i have switched from abu to shimano. the reason is that abu stopped honoring their lifetime garantee on their baitcasters. not standing behind your product waranty makes you a dishonest company so unfortunately i now do business with another company that is frankly putting out a better product anyway. my shimanos are awsome. anyone interested in a box full of broke abu reels that have a lifetime waranty they wont honor?

Very good answer, Shimano felt better in my hands. I have one Revo that sits on a shelf and a dozen Shimano's that go in my boat.
