well i have switched from abu to shimano. the reason is that abu stopped honoring their lifetime garantee on their baitcasters. not standing behind your product waranty makes you a dishonest company so unfortunately i now do business with another company that is frankly putting out a better product anyway. my shimanos are awsome. anyone interested in a box full of broke abu reels that have a lifetime waranty they wont honor?

Very True I have had the new Johnny Morris Signature series II in high speed model ( the black one) and I love that it has the old fashioned centrifiugal brake along with a super adjustable spool tensioner and magnetic brake it is almost idiot proof ( I know I have been considered the village idiot many a time) spooled with Trilene 12# flourocarbon and I am starting to favor it over my 1st generation Abu Revo STX without the new centrifugal brake,spooled with 20# power line braid,it casts more accurateley less backlashes lighter lures and reels a lot smoother about the only down fall is I don't like the drag as much as the STX's it is very noticalble when you set the hook on a large fish over 5#'s again this is just my opinion and I have Abu's since the late 70's Sorry I don't have any experience on Shamino's other than a few spinning reels from the late 80's

Shimano all the way. My brother uses Revos and I'll don't like them near as well as my Shimanos.

I've come to the conclusion after having used both that for spinning reels its all Shimano but for baitcasters it's definitely the Abu Garcia Revo. I've sold all my Shimano baitcasters and have gone to all Revo's they are hands down the best made and best feeling reels on the market. Shimano of course still dominates the spinning reels.

Do your research and read a ton of product reviews....I did before I started purchasing my new lineup of reels and went with Shimano Curado E5's and E7's and a 50E....Seems like a LOT of people were having problems with their Revos, and that's what made my mind up for me....If given the chance to go back and make the same choice, I would in a heartbeat...I have been nothing but pleased with my Shimanos....Another big gripe a lot of people had about the Revos was their lack of drag pressure....I've never used one but most everybody talked about the drag slipping wayyyy too much....In the end it's your decision and you would be best served to hold both and see what feels the best to you

I personally dont want to support the CHINA economy. So, I would buy an Ardent since all other reels are manufactured in China or Korea.
