I was talking to my uncle about our Ky Lake trip next spring when he asked about going to fork for 10 days. He went for 2 weeks every year but hasn't been there in 4 years now and wants to go back. My question is should I give up my spring trip to Ky for a chance at a real hog in Texas? I think I should but what do you think?

I fish KY Lake a few times every year and catch some big fish, but a few years ago I spent a week at Lake Fork in the spring with a friend who lives down there. I've never seen so many 5,6, and 7 pounders caught in a week. He and the 2 guys in the other boat were very disappointed they didn't land anything over 9 lbs! KY is an awesome lake, no doubt, but every bass fisherman should fish Fork at some point....
This past spring i was having breakfast at kenlake marina and two guys sitting next two me were from lake fork. I talked to them for a while and wondered why they were here? They had different reasons but the most significant was spring on lake fork was unbelievably crowded......so u can make your best assessment.I was talking to my uncle about our Ky Lake trip next spring when he asked about going to fork for 10 days. Of course my vote goes for keeping the money here in Ky...but if I was going to travel all the way to Texas, might as well go to Falcon or Amistad for the chance for really big bruiser.
yea fork all the way but theres a little lake in mexico thats better i hear just dont drink the water there.
I agree with Dave on this one totally. The Army Bass Angler Team is based out of Texas and I get REAL sick of hearing about how hard it is to win on Falcon. Poor guys don't even place in 200 boat tournies with 25-26 lbs sacks!!! I fished Fork during the Skeeter Owners Tournament we helped run this year and was not on the lake 10 minutes before I got my first 5 lber. I was excited and they looked at me like "what's the big deal, those are a dime a dozen?". Now I do enjoy a good day at KY Lake, but if I had 10 days to go, I am DEFINATELY in TX! Good luck and best of fishing to you either way you decide!

dc, I see you are from Eastern KY. Make you a deal... I have wanted to go to Fork for some time. If I can go with you guys, I'll pull my boat... you can even have one of your friends in my boat if you want, I'll be happy to spend several weekends at KY Lake with you.I was talking to my uncle about our Ky Lake trip next spring when he asked about going to fork for 10 days. In fact, if not with you, if I can find someone who wants to split a trip to Fork, go in late Feb. to Mar., I am up for it. At least right now...LOL
As for Dave's suggestion to further south to Amistad and/or Falcon, think about how big TX is, and that it is many more hours of travel time. We can be at Fork in about 11 hours from KY lake, yet add 6 or more hours easily to Amistad, from what I have read.
With 10 days down there, I may be intrigued with the idea of 5 days at Fork, and 5 days at Sam Rayburn. But that is just me.
Really, anyone want to spend a few days fishing to see if we might make a good set of partners to fish in TX for a week??
tight lines,

If I thought about it long enough (funds permitting) I would do both - I would head straight to fork for a week and back to KY Lake for a week then head home. You got to keep in mind the smallmouth here on KY, you have a chance to get your arm broke on any given cast and a 5lb smallie or bigger would make a trip. yet a 10+lb LM on Fork would solidify that trip!! Plus you could break the drive time down on the remaining leg of the trip.
I would give anything to be able to have 2-weeks back to back and lay out a fishing "TRIP" like that!!
I didn't think about keeping the money in state.... I need to think about my fellow kyans during this bad time, thats 100% from my heart too.
Fork has a 16 to 24 inch slot and only one fish in a 5 fish limit can be over 24 so the other 4 have to be under 16. Unless everyone is catching 16 and 17 pound fish ( the lake record is 18 ) how are guys not placing with 25 and 26 pound sacks? It would be hard to have a sack over 25 on a lake were 4 of your fish are 2 to 2.5 pound keepers and only one toad.I agree with Dave on this one totally. Just passing on what I know about that lake. That is one of the reasons the big trails like FLW and BASS don't have tournaments there.
The slot limit you're talking about is for Fork. He's refering to tournaments on Falcon.Fork has a 16 to 24 inch slot and only one fish in a 5 fish limit can be over 24 so the other 4 have to be under 16.
