If that short, generic speech was in fact the President "setting curriculum" then I guess I did miss the point but I hardly think that's what it was.

(and the "point" seems to keep changing. I think the real point is some of you just don't like the guy - and I don't either - but I don't see why we'd cause such an uproar about him giving a little pep talk speech to students)

So sending materials as a "suggestion" is the same as setting curriculum?

Doesn't seem to be to me.

I don't understand this thought at all. There is a big difference in setting a curriculum, and tying stuff into the curriculum to supplement it. He didn't change anything.

BOTTOM LINE......the DOE is not chartered to send material to schools to SET curriculum.....did you NOT read the links associated with my post.

And this is what I've been saying all along - that the opposition is really just based upon political affiliation and not really about what was actually happening.

People just want to be angry, offended, opposed, etc. these days for no good reason and I'm growing tired of it.

I would have felt just the same - republican or democrat - as long as it stayed away from being a politcal/agenda driven speech. I have said that all along during the obama speech debate. I am not anti republican - I admire many republicans, voted for several. I (personally) tend to agree with the democrats as a whole more than republicans. However, I don't take it as far as nit picking every little flaw about any and every republican I can find. I would be ripping Obama on here if his speech was remotely political - but I knew from the start it would not be.

Again there is a huge difference in sample lesson plans for activities and curriculum.

And how might I add,can you prove this? Because the propoganda machine says they didn't change the speech? Obama had quite a bit of time between the announcment
of the upcoming speech,the resulting uproar over it,and the day the actual text came out,yet you can say absolutely without a doubt nothing was changed?

I think a couple of people need to read back through this thread. It's easy to see how people get confused by just a basic message board thread, nevermind the workings of our government.
