    Wear your ear plugs

Well it seems after two hearing tests I have extensive hearing loss on high pitched frequencies in both ears especially acute in my right ear. According to the Doc, he looks at me and say's, ''After studying your hearing test my guess is you have done alot of shooting in your life and are probably right handed''. I just looked at the guy and said are Physic are something, and laughed. He said no I've just looked at a bunch of these and your hearing loss is a dead ringer for loud popping noises such as gunfire. I told him his was good at his game.

Wear the hearing protection guys, It's very important to save those ears. Now with severe Tinnutis,(Ringing in the ears), I will never shoot without plugs again.

Of course standing in front of stacks of Peavy Amps at rock concerts all through the 70's and early 80's probably didn't help alot either, lol.

    What? Speak up?

Know what you mean. Playing bass in a metal bands with monster stacks of amps for 20+ years does a number.

Course the other thing the doc did not consider, does your wife usually sit to the right of you

Been getting mine checked at the trade shows for years and considering the music, shooting hobbies and Military service I'm doing alright.
The thing that could be the curse for alot of people will be ipods and associated devices. It's so easy to jam way to loud with headsets and when you consider how long people use them it spells future hearing loss.

When I run I wear an I-Pod but I keep the volume down pretty good. Can you imagine what this young generation that own these Car thumping devices will be like, lol.

You know the ones, when they go by and your car it's shaking from the BOOM, BOOM, BOOM from the Little John and Fifty cent, Yeaaaaaa.

Well...sounds like it could be another symptom of OFD. Headphones, guns, and subwoofers are tough on the ears for sure. I'm guilty of all three...plus using loud power tools and yard equipment without hearing protection as well. I needed to read this for sure. Good advice.

    Thanks for the reminder Mark...

As far as those people out there who are playing that "stuff" with the deep bass...Not only is it ruining their ears, but it's also ruining a perfectly good automobile by shaking and rattling loose ever dag gone scew, bolt and nut! I know this to be true because I've seen their trunk lids vibrate as well as seen my own mirrors when at a red light, etc. I thought about getting a "system" installed in my truck to do battle with these rascals...Hank Jr. verses Fifty-Cents, lol...but I figured heck with it, save my money cause you can't fix stupid.

Sorry I got off the beaten path...didn't mean to hi-jack the thread...just a bad subject with me I guess.

Sorry man. On the bright side you can practice selective hearing and get away with it. Think of the advantages of only being able to hear what you want to.

I'm right there with you. I hate it that both ears ring and never stop but that is life. I wish I could go back in time but can't. I will just have to live with it.
