    Re: 2010 Penny Question

While searching for some info on this I did find that some of the dollar (Thomas Jefferson is what I have) coins have the "In God We Trust" engraved on the side of the coin. Thought that was interesting.

You know.........I actually spent about an hour researching this and didn't find any that said it was not true.

I even went to the US MINT site, and didn't find any specific information either way.

    HM.......I hope not.

    Thanks,

According to that website (and several others I found that say the same thing), the only thing that changes is the reverse side (the side opposite Lincoln's head). In God We Trust is on the side with the head, so it should still be there.
Actually this only says the PORTRAIT is the same..........and the proof's of the portrait that I've seen on other sites, don't have the inscription.

    Re: 2010 Penny Question

I will say this......the very FACT that some people want to change the idea of GOD in this country is what scares me.

We were founded by CHRISTIAN values........PERIOD.

Walk around Washington DC........our founding fathers, LOVED GOD, and cherished that relationship. EVERY Monument in Washington has GOD inscribed on it.

If you don't like it........move somewhere where GOD is not prevalent......EASY ENOUGH.

I totally agree that the efforts by some on the far left to remove all references to God are ridiculous. That would amount to going back and editing what the Founding Fathers said, and that's just wrong. However, I think it's just as important to remember that while they did hold strong religious beliefs, which of course influenced everything they did in their public and private lives, our Founding Fathers also believed strongly in the separation of church and state. IMHO state-sponsored religion, which is the goal of some on the right, is just as dangerous to our precious Democracy as are the efforts to remove religious references from public buildings, money, etc.

I HAVE walked aroung D.C. many times, and please pardon me for splitting hairs, but not every memorial contains a reference to God. The Vietnam Veteran's Memorial bears no inscription at all other than the names of those killed in action (its simplicity makes it all the more powerful). And the inscription on the Korean War Memorial contains the numbers of killed, wounded, and MIA, along with the words "Our nation honors her sons and daughters who answered the call to defend a country they never knew and a people they never met." Neither contains any direct or indirect references to God, and neither is the worse for it.

    Re: 2010 Penny Question

The country was founded by those who came for freedom of religious persecution. Different religions have their own interpretations as to who their "GOD" is. Example, muslims believe "ALLAH" is "GOD" and so forth. So the word "GOD" does not give special treatment or power to any one religion.
So to me it comes down to this. It's between Atheist's who believe there is no "GOD" and and those who believe there is a "GOD". I think the vast majority believe in "God" even if they don't go to church. So it's not a cut dry matter of seperation of church and state.
I don't feel we should alter our heritage to cater to the everyone that come's along. Do we dig up all the crosses at the Arlington National Cemetary and replace them with bricks? I mean what's next, because trust me something will be next. There are people that don't want parts of our history to be taught in schools either. Where does the whitewashing stop?

OK.....you picked 2................I will adjust my statement..........

Nearly EVERY place you look in our capitol, MOST monuments, there are references to GOD.

    I'm just sayin.......

And I'm not even a bible thumper.....but I believe our country is going to hell in a hand basket due to the LEFT leaners ideology.

Morality and Ethical values are no longer important to the left. JUST look at how they act.....

I think there is a DIRECT correlation to kids acting like IDIOTS and the removal of CHRISTIAN values in schools.....

Separation of Church and STATE has gone way too far in this country.

Our founding fathers had CHRISTIAN beliefs.......but they didn't want a stated sponsored religion. They were being persecuted by the Church of England, and didn't want Church of England or the Catholic Religion being "higher" than the Government in the pecking order.

Our founders were VERY CLEAR on this. It is unfortunate that RADICALS on the left take that to mean that GOD and Country are completely and forever separate.

Like I said earlier. If you don't like the fact that we're a Christian nation. Move SOMEWHERE ELSE.......where you can freely believe that all Totalitarian GUBMENT is the way. I believe there are a lot of 3rd world dictatorships around that would welcome you with open arms.

If I thought that United States was Christian THEOCRACY, or a theocracy of ANY type, I WOULD (although any such gubment most likely wouldn't allow it). There has NEVER EXISTED a THEOCRACY on the face of the Earth, be it Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, or whatever, that was not BLOODY and BARBARIC.

But I know that's not what you're sayin' You and I do agree on the basics of this, so I'm done.
