    Flippin' and Pitchin'....What's The Difference?

I love to pitch and flip, although I'm not really sure when I'm doing one and not the other. can someone shed some light and let me know what the difference is? What I've always called flippin is when I use high pound test line and use an underhanded "Flip" to get into heavy cover....and pitchin I always called when I was for example on a grass mat randomly "Pitching" at holes in the grass....am I wrong?

I've read several articles on this, "the pros" say, "flipping" is when you have a set amount of line out, and your reel is "locked down". Pitching is a short, accurate cast, either underhand, or a roll cast from the side, and line actually comes off the reel. I would'nt worry about, just keep on, keepin' on. A name is just a name, what counts goes in the livewell..tr

Basically two different techniques that accomplish the same goal. I can't explian them in writing very well, but this video shows the differences.

hey magik....forget the flippin and pitchin and just call it "catchin" ! lol
pitchin is usually when line actually leaves the reel. flippin is a set amount and the is controlled by pulling the bait close to the end of the rod by pulling the line and then gently easing it into the water. judging from your picture i think youve got it! lol

I agree here....just watched a KVD video and he explained it the same way. Although he said pitching is for a little longer distance than flipping....up to around 30 ft.

Pitchin' is when you get a lot of backlashes, Flippin' is when you don't........

Thanks for posting that question. I've wondered how so many guys could flip and make it look effortless. I didn't realize that no line was leaving the spool. This helps a lot, thanks.
