Suez is a critical US Navy passage too.

Eqypt being an ally along with Israel tends to quite the middle east some. I think the best thing is to stay out of Egypt and let the people decide for themselves. Too much US support to the current regime embraces cruelty we can't support.

Egypt is a major settling influence in the middle East, they accept us, we accept Israel.

I really hope we don't provided any additional aid, don't send even one soldier, and just let the Egyptians sort this out for themselves. Advice, yes, support, troops, or tax payer $$$, NO!

    RE: Tear gas:
    1. Better than bullets.
    2. Blame the drunk, not the maker of the car or beer maker. Nothing wrong with the tear gas, its non-lethal, and I'm glad they took that level of crowd control.
    3. I bet their uniforms are Russian, their boots are German, their underwear is Japanese, and their socks are from China. So lets declare it a conspiracy.

yes I am, why? because its another place to stick our noses into other peoples problems. We got rid of saddam because he gassed some of his own people. since then there is not a day thjat6 a bomb dosn't go off in that country, we really took care of that problem. We went into afganistan, beat their butts, and then decided to stay, dosn't seem to working either.Ever wonder why china, india and brasil have such thriving economys? THEY DO NOT HAVE TROOPS ON OVER 40 DIFFERENT COUNTRYS. We cant solve our problems, why do we think we can solve the worlds problems? Cut this military aide to everyopne at the tax payers expense. We also need to know who to back, we pick losers, because they are shallow greedy unscrouplous people, like some of our secret leaders are.

    Re: Anyone worried about Egypt??

It is INTERESTING that you pick China, India and Brazil. Yea, those are the 3 that are booming NOW.

But just 20-30 years ago, it was RUSSIA that we worried about and it was AMERICAN MIGHT and military muscle that kept them from expanding COMMUNISM around the world.

AND I BET if China had the military might to project power, THEY WOULD.

I personally believe our military has been and WILL be the worlds police force forever.

Finally.......THANK GOD the Egyptian military has been trained by the best military in the world. So far, they are practicing restraint. AND by execising restraint, they may just save the entire middle east. If the Muslim Brotherhood gets a foothold there, I'm afraid the Israelies may be pushed into MILITARY confrontation with quite a few hated enemies.

SO YEA........I'm glad or MILITARY MIGHT and our 30-40 year relationship with EGYPT is pretty **** strong.

Of course, this could all fall apart overnight, so who the hell knows. I hope it doesn't and I hope it is over soon........and I HOPE there is a democratic transition there.

    Later,

    Geo

I got the answer. We need to understand their culture to provide the opportunity to come up with a culturally acceptable solution.

With that in mind, I offer this to be the cultural sensitivity training:

    Re: Anyone worried about Egypt??

Guys, I went to this Economic Outlook Conference put on by UofK's business school today. A guy, who happened to be the chief of something in the US department of commerce (read: BIG DEAL!), talked about the concern we should have for energy and food production. He made very good but scary points about how the price of fuel is going up while India & China are growing 9.5% per year in the midst of this global recession! That means, approximately, their oil consumption is going up that fast as well. Additionally, Egypt is one of the world's foremost grain producers. Unrest there, may lead to another year of global food shortages and resulting global unrest. Not to be to foreboding, but we need to pay attention to all this.

I agree Eddie....we should be paying attention and watching closely.

This may be slightly off the subject of current events in Egypt but I'll tell it anyway. I'm FINALLY beginning to strongly believe that the United States should be investing heavily in wind, solar and low impact hydro-power. Anything and everything to help kick our habit of relying on foriegn oil, fossil fuels and the wasting of good forests, etc. In my opinion there should be an additional three R's taught in school which are Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

I know I sound like I've been drinking the Kool-Aid...and...maybe I have. Truth be known I've been having to study for an upcoming LEED's exam (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), maybe this is what's brain washing me, lol...At any rate, geting away from foriegn oil and depnding on other means is a big deal and it requires a huge amount of obligation, effort, and "change" in each and everyone's life living in the United States. It's real...I know this don't sound like me, but it's real.
