KET worried about loss of nearly $2.9 million in federal funding

60% of their money comes from SALES TAXES.......it is a 1/8th percent or something like that on EVERYTHING sold in the state. And it is protected.

I don't like any new taxes, but a GUARANTEED TAX like this may not be a bad idea.

I could handle a 1/8th percent increase in sales tax for better hunting and fishing.

Something so small can really add up. I just don't understand why no one proposes this or why KDFWR doesn't push to get it. I guess the knee-jerk reaction that most people have against taxes is why. The whole landscape of KDFWR and their programs would change for the better, and we would all benefit from it.

In my opinion, its all part of dumbing down america.Defense spending? it makes jobs for a lot of folks, but its sort of stupid, the world is changing, we need aircraft carriers to protect us? You cant hide them anymore, they are tracked by satelites, can be destroyed my a missle that costs one tenth of the cost. I would think KY Afield would get picked up by local tv affiliates in KY. Some shows on local tv I really wonder how they even get on the air. Ky Afield surely draws more than some of these dang cooking shows. KY Afield might have to deal with sponsors to buy commercial time, but heck they're already allowing sponsors in their rules book to help publish those!

Cut KET. It's an outdated channel anways. 40 years ago when there was no cable or internet, it was a valuable resource, but now I just don't see the need.

And about tax increases...if you want to increase taxes, then add a tax to support something worthy, like the KDFWR. I would fully support KDFWR taking money from the general fund, and bumping the state sales tax by 0.5% if they would be guaranteed to get that share of it. This crap of increasing license costs each year, moaning about lack of money, and underpaying it's employees needs to stop. KDFWR needs get off their high-horse and try to get something sustainable set up instead of gambling on how many are going to buy a license each year!

Now there is a big push to deregulate industry and gut EPA air and water pollution regulations. Do you think this may = the big fishing, hunting and drinking water bailout of the 2020's???

Taylorrsville, Rough River, Green river, Nolin and all other Army Corp Lakes can just fall into disrepair. Stop government spending.

But to often investing in US is considered waste. Railway from Tampa to Orlando is Big Govment spending. But all those tourist going from Tampa to Disney World are using gas and choking the freeways. A rail line from Louisville to Lexingtom and its suburbs is proposed for a fair cheaper that one day of long term parking at Louisville airport. I reviewed the web site that you have posted above. This report is a local grand jury's conclusions findings and recommendations of a "proposed" light rail system . It appears to be based on there interpitations of data. I would take this report with a grain of salt. While it may have some merit, many of their conclusions are based on assumptions that may not be accurate. There is really no indication of the qualifications of the grand jury members to interpret trends and the data they accessed. One needs to remember that grand jury's are comprised of common citizens. Basing an opinion entirely on one grand jury report would be a little lacking in judgment.

Now if one were to examine the Martha Light Rail transit system in Atlanta Ga. they may find a public transportations system that is highly efficient and cost affective. It is funded by fares and a 1% sales tax only collected in areas (counties) the transit system serves. It has had a terrific impact in traffic congestion as it was intended with side benefits in reducing air pollution (although Atlanta still has smog issues) and reduces gasoline consuption.

So to claim that the government is paying out $13,950.00 every time someone gets on a commuter train is just wrong, not true, incorrect, not fact, false, bogus, sham, phony, fabricated, deceitful, mistaken, erroneous.

Florida would be well served to persue this oppertunity for a rail service from Tampa to Orlando. The best thing about out proposed rail line from Lexington to Louisville is that is will only require the cost of the train as the rail ines are in place.

I did business with a company based in Atlanta for years. I rode Martha many times from the airport to withing 1/2 block of my hotel. Very convenient transportation.

I don't see light rail replacing the car, but it is a very nice supplement transportation.

Warren Buffet of Berkshire Hathaway has been investing heavily in rail stocks for several years now. Freight trains are so much more efficient in moving goods than trucking.

Lowes and other major material handlers used to have stores locted next to rail spur lines. I remember (and not that long ago) 99% of the lumber and meterials delivered to Lowes and other building supplies here in Frankfort were delivered by rail lines.

At some point we have switched to trucking. As a result highways are choked with trucks, the interstates are full of potholes and problems with the weight of trucks, diesel fuel is higher than gas (10 years ago it was the other way around). Lowes has moved their store from the rail line to the interstate.

I would not write off rail transportation just yet. Trucking is faster, but with a little planning we can keep our stores stocked. The many years that Lowe's was located by the rail line I never found them out of 2x4s or plywood.

Burring all this diesel fuel and gas is coming with a price, namely terrorism, exporting US dollars, over 60% of the trade deficit.

We need to start saving were we can. Rail freight should be way high on the list. Passenger rail where it can be used efficently (Tampa to Disney World, Atlanta Martha line, DC metro, etc.) should be a priority. We can still have our cars for daily transportation.

As far as Amtrak goes, it's considered heavy rail. Also note that when gas hit $4.50 a gal in 09 Amtrak turned a proffit that year. $5.00 gas will be here this summer and we may remember that as the last year of cheap gas.

I say prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Looks like PBS has gone from losing 14% of it's funding to going out of business during this thread. Many businesses and individuals have cut way more than 14% over the last 2 or 3 years.

I agree with the cuts, the federal government has no business funding PBS or NPR. Send a donation to help them make up the difference if you like their programming.
