Backed my trailer in too far one morning, watched the boat float off out into the lake! No one was around so I had to swim out and get the boat! In a big Hurry!!!!

OK, this is a story related by a co-worker about a friend of his, so I can't vouch for veracity...but it's still pretty funny.
These guys were in a boat fishing on a lake. One of them gets his lure caught in a tree limb hanging out over the water. He pulls, and it won't come free, so they pull over beneath it to get a different angle and less slack in the line.
The one guy pulls and tugs to shake the lure loose, and he shakes a big snake out of the tree, and it falls --THUMP! right into the boat.
The other guy freaks out, pulls out a pistol, and fires two shots at the snake. He misses, but there are now two decent sized holes in the bottom of the boat. The snake slithers over the side. The two fishermen get the boat onto shore before it sinks, and use a rock to pound out the metal from the bullet holes and use metal tape to patch it enough to make it back to the boat ramp.
I was cracking up when I heard the story.

put in at Rough one evening for a night tournament, I've got a Ranger and forgot to put the plug in, so wile I was waiting for my partner, I looked and saw water coming up through the drain in the floor, It's a long way up to the parking lot, and I was about to panic, I looked and noticed a guy putting his Ranger in the water, I told him my problem, he yelled to the driver of his truck to stay their, I pulled right up on his trailer, it was not a exact fit but got me out of the water long enough for the water to drain, needless to say I thanked him for his help...............LOL

I fish with a lot of guides when "researching" for magazine articles. I have had to major blunders this year that really made me feel stupid.
#1 unhooked a guides strap for him to launch his boat, but didn't unhook the safety chain, which snapped!
#2 broke a rod tip off a rod that belonged to the guide I was fishing with.
Felt like a fool both times. Nothing like a little feeling of incompetence to humble you!![]()
I was fishing T-ville one evening and got my texas rigged worm hung in a tree. I tried to break the 17lb line by pulling on the rod. It wouldn't break so me being a genius I turn the trolling motor on high and turn to the right. You know put a little extra pressure on it. Sure enough just like I wanted, it popped loose. Only problem was 3/8 bullet sinker was just that. A bullet. It smack me square in the side of head and almost knock me off my feet. I had to sit down as I was feeling a little off balance. Last time I try to avoid disturbing a spot!
Usually one per trip but this one was at Barren. I caught a catfish on the bluff wall down from Bailey's Point. I used a pair of pliers to free the hook. So, pliers in one hand catfish in the other I go to drop the cat back into the lake. Kerplunk! At this point I realize the catfish is still in my hand and the pliers were on their way to a watery grave.
Forgot to mention. Same evening my fishing partner was up on the front deck with me casting. He got a little too close and while launching his DD22, on his follow thru, buried the lure in the back of my skull. That one wasn't my fault though.
My youngest son and I were just finished fishing at Guist Creek Lake and I loaded the boat with him watching. I noticed it was on the trailer a little crooked so I thought I would push it back a little on the trailer. I considered putting the winch strap on to hold it close but figured I shouldn't have any trouble. Wrong! I pushed a little and it slides right off the trailer and begins drifting away. I quickly emptied my pockets and swam out to my boat. How embarrassing. I got out to it and thought I could climb aboard. No chance. So, I reached up and opened a front compartment where I keep the rope I use when launching by myself. I got it out and clipped it to the bow eye and began swimming back to trailer, pulling the boat behind me. I got it back on, straight this time and got me and then the boat out of the water. I don't plan to let this happen again.
Fell in mid Feb. with 3 layers of clothes on. Have you ever been so cold you felt like you were on fire? Lesson learned.
Bonehead thing in life: MARRIED MY FIRST WIFE
Bonehead in fishing: Bought a boat. Bought a boat. Bought a boat. Bought a boat, did I mention Bought a BOAT. Drove to Cumberland from Frankfort to night fish only to realize that I left the boat keys at the house AFTER I had floated the boat off the trailer. I was fishing by myself so ended up wading out to the end of the trailer to hook up the wench to get her back on the trailer. Luckily it was the middle of summer and as mad as I was at myself the water was nice and chilly compared to the rest of me.
Sorry about your trip, but I actually got a chuckle out of that oneBonehead thing in life: MARRIED MY FIRST WIFE

Me and my wife took a trout float trip down the Cumberland river with guide Randell Gibson several years ago,my wife hooked a decent brown trout, but somehow got her line wrapped around the prop so bad that it got up inside the shaft and made a terrible mess.Gibson didn't say much as we were paying customers, but he was pissed.
I did catch a 5lb-8 oz smallmouth at the mouth of crocus creek that trip, wish I could find that picture.
