No recent reports on Laurel? I am pretty sure they had a tourney down there in the past couple weeks? The water should be around 65.... ??

Finally its that time of the year!! I go on a trout fishing trip every year to laurel and I am lucky enough to have planned two of them. I am going down this comming weekend and the next weekend. Is there any report on the trout, walleye, smallies, or largemouth. Anything in particular we should try to get anything during the day? I have heard that draggin lizards with a chartruse tail through the outskirts of the timer may entice a walleye or two. any thoughts?

Water is 76 and it is tough.
I've never fished Laurel, but according to an earlier thread you'll probably have your vehicle striped down and taken to a local chop shop if you park in certain areas. The local meth-heads and pill poppers seem to be running rampant down there - be advised.
Throw a red fin close to the bank from 11pm until day light. The shad are spawning and you can catch everything on a red fin.

Thank guys. No luck in the timber? what do you mean by rough? rough fishing or rough water?
I will be parking at Holly Bay and I'm not driving so I am not worried about it![]()
Well... here's the report. Got back yesterday. Water was calm and 72. Duue to some motor troubles... my fault not the boats, we got a late start. caught a couple close up to the bank but nothing worth taking a picture of. Tried trolling near the dam and had no luck. At night we put out lights and had mutiple hits but they were really timid about taking the bait. Caught only one.
On a side note the amount of bait fish that came to the lights was incredible! I have been taking this trip for roughly 12 years and have never seen anything like it. I was really surprised that we didn't get anything underneath or in the bait ball. I'm going back this weekend with my dad. Any thoughts on what we should do if we find these shad again just after dark?
Cast a redfin or a thunder stick or a rico down any rock wall bank and hold on. You will hear the fish busting top water.
This seems to be a regular occurence this spring. My guess is due to such a mikd winter there was no shad die off to thin the numbers.Well... here's the report. Got back yesterday. Thunderstick are a lot like swim baits right? about 4 -5 in. long some are jointed some are not? And I thought Rico's were top water baits. Did a little trolling along the walls with a 4 in green and yellow jointed swim bait and had no luck. I will try the blue one maybe this weekend, and get right up next to the wall and cast. what sizes would you reccomend?
