Angry What Were They Planning to Do to Me?

I remember a thread that was posted earlier in the week about home invasions, robberies, thefts, etc., and want to tell you about an encounter of a different type I had last night. Just before dark I went out to move my car into the garage and remembered that I hadn't picked up the mail for 2 days. Since I live in an area that has a significant number of eastern diamondback rattlesnakes, I decided that instead of walking about 700 ft. across the lawn, I would drive around to the mailbox which is placed on a road that runs beside my property. There are only 4 houses on the one-lane road. Although it was twilight, I had my headlights on so I could see clearly where I was walking. I pulled to the side of the road at the mailbox and left the car door open with the engine running for less than two minutes.

Just as I turned around from the mailbox, a white Honda SUV with tinted windows pulled up to my rear bumper and just sat there. I don't know anyone that has a vehicle like that and my heart started beating faster. (My husband works out of state and I live alone). I asked, "Can I help you?" No answer. "Do I know you?" Still no answer. "What do you want?" Still no answer; they just sat there. As I reached in to lay the mail on the seat I said, "Will you please move away from my car so I can back up?" They didn't move. When I raised up from putting the mail on the seat, I came out with my handgun and aimed straight for the driver's windshield. I learned that a white Honda SUV will go from 0-60 mph, IN REVERSE, in exactly 5 seconds.

Today I am asking a lot of "why" and "what ifs" but I can say for sure that I am glad I have a Handgun Carry Permit and a handgun that is my co-pilot.

Wow, I'm sure glad that event had a good ending for you. Keep on packin' Bug.

My son had an attempted break in at his house just the other day. He thinks his dog barking inside scared the perps away.

These poor, misunderstood thugs probably just can't find jobs thanks to Bush. (Tongue firmly in cheek.)

Bug I have had similar happen to me except I was bank fishing at the time and did not have my pistol on me.

I was fishing a small single lane ramp which is hardly ever used down at Nolin on the river end.

All gravel road around for a about a half a mile which are the only roads that go to this ramp, and I could hear someone in the distance driving very fast coming toward me.

The way they were driving so fast I thought for sure it had to be a sheriff or game warden.
It was neither, a little old beat up S10 or GMC came flying down the road and ramp so fast that I had to jump in the water because I thought they were going to drive straight in the water to run me over.

Slammed on their brakes at the last second.

I'm chest deep in the water yelling to the truck,,, what do you want???? no answer After a minute or so a very drunk man in his late to mid 30's gets out of the truck with a beer in his hand and asks if I'm having a good time.

Scared the poo out of my wife, her g/f and me.

I'd say they didn't have good intentions... Maybe they were Hispanic? You could have violated their rights by not speaking to them in Spanish?!?!? Be expecting a lawsuit from the mexicans for Obama Union Lol just kidding!!

Seriously though I'm glad you have the balls to do stuff like that. I have never had to pull my gun on anyone and I would like to think that if I do it ends like this and nothing worse. Be safe bug!!

I think it's universally understood, yep. LOL

I produced a weapon one time in my life. A buddy of mine and I were night fishing and had put in at this really remote ramp. I'm talking a lot of real estate between there and anywhere with anybody or anything. We fished until about 3:00am and had caught a few, but a storm was coming in, so we headed back to the ramp. I went and got the truck, my buddy trailered the boat, and we were sitting in the parking lot strapping down and buttoning everything up. Out of the darkness and middle of nowhere stumble two rough looking dudes out of the woods. They stood about 20 yards from us, just staring. We were both a little uncomfortable, but went on about our business. Then they started easing up a little closer. One of them mumbled "Sure is a nice truck ya got there buddy" and I said "Yeah, thanks" or something like that. He took another couple steps closer to me and something just didn't sit right in my gut. I kept an old Winchester 1300 pump laid under the back seat in the extended cab, which I had quick access to because the seat was flipped up and the driver door was sitting open. My buddy was strapping down the trolling motor and I just casually reached in the back, pulled out the shotgun, racked it, and laid it across the front of the boat at arm's reach. I didn't say anything, didn't point it, just made it known that I had it. They never said another word...just stood there. We finished up quick, I laid the gun back in the truck, and we got out of Dodge. I'm not sure what would have happened if I hadn't had the shotgun. Maybe nothing...or maybe all hell would have broken loose. All I know is that my spidey-senses told me that something was wrong and I needed to get out of there quick. I believe to this day that they had intentions of trying to steal my truck and his boat. I know that the experts say to never show your cards unless you have decided to fire...they could have been harmless, felt that their life was being threatened and drawn weapons on me...but I feel like that old Winchester laying on the deck saved us from a bad situation.

    Peace through superior firepower works...

I'm absolutely sure. My postal inspector already knows I am satisfied with my delivery service; she set it up.
