We ended up putting south today to stay out of some of the brutality.
The wind was still horrible, but not so bad that I could not SAFELY fish![]()
.
Ended up with 30 today with a decent bag of smallies to boot. All on crankbaits and red eye shad. We did catch a few on shakey head and big football jigs, but most came on cranks or red eye shad.
Had dinner at Timbers, which is a MUST STOP if you're in that area. Worth the drive from Aurora or Cadiz, if you ask me.
A minor bit of bummer though.......I tagged a 10 - 12 pt buck on the trace headed back to Poplar Creek. Not too much damage to my truck, but damage is damage...........

Glad to hear your bite got better yesterday. I know you have enough sense to put in where you don't have to leave the creeks and stay safe from the wind on the main lakes......we have discussed that many times. It's gonna blow again today...looks like we will have this for a couple of more days before the wind settles down. Gotta watch out for those Bambi's....my son hit one last week. I just missed one myself on Friday evening..you kinda get used to watching for them around here all the time. If you have a problem with the vehicle trying to get home...give me a call.

HAHA! What is so funny is that Dave said you have enough sense. Glad you had a good fishing day and sorry about your truck. Is the truck still drivable? I remember when you and I were down there I almost got one also.
George,
I heard you were going to be at Poplar creek, sorry I didnt stick around to meet you. Was there Wed and Thurs. rain sent us packing early for home on Friday.
Where did you put in while you were there? I stayed north both daysweather was great but wind sucked as well as the bite. Was told the best bite was south of 68 bridge, but im not at all familiar with that area.
Hey, thanks........I didn't have too much damage.......a broken headlight mount and a cracked grill. I did have a little wobble, which I will get looked at tomorrow, but we made it home ok.Glad to hear your bite got better yesterday. Today was brutal. We put in using the smith bay ramp, and fished there a solid 5-6 hours, with 1 or 2 fish.
Fished a lot of spots in smith, but didn't manage to do very good.
Oh well, I'm headed down again Friday for 5 days. And then the next week, and that will be it until the spring.

Friday, we drove down the trace and put in at Sugar Bay. My fishin buddy and I both had raingear failure, and ended up getting wet and cold. We called it around 12:00pm on Friday.George,

Saturday, we went south on barkley and put in around devils elbow. The wind was still brutal, but not so much that I could not find places to fish.
We managed a decent bag, including some smallies.
