Does anyone know how the fish are hitting the float and fly on Laurel River Lake right now? I have been wanting to get out there and try it.
If you go let me know how you do I have been wanting to go I have a tournament there Sunday and I was thinking I'd use that
The FNF bite was really good until the water turned this crazy color, the color has been off for over a month.
I was on Laurel on Saturday. The water was mid 40s and was clear around grove down towards the dam.. It was pretty stained up towards the river and spruce creek. Up around holly bay the water had a weird stain to it as well towards dam but stopped between the dam and grove. Only had 1 smallie and all the trout u could catch.
I was onLaurel on Thursday. I went out of Grove. The water from there to Flatwoods was clear. I could see about 10 feet down in places. I caught two trout on a jerkbait and one on a shad rap. I was not fishing for trout. I think I saw a few bass chase my baits but when they got into view they turned around and never bit. I did not try the float n' fly but I should have. I also should have thrown a drop-shot. The water temps were 44 -47 that day. I hope you do better when you go.
I went out today 2-15-2013 and tried the float and fly. Caught a bunch of trout and never got nothing else. The water temp was around 43 degrees. Water was just a little off color to up to rodgers creek Not real bad. Hope this helps.
Can one of you fellas tell me what is this float and fly?
Great video......
I think I might make me some of those bobbers......I use the traditional bobber, but maybe there are times when the longer stick type bobber would be more effective.

Sorry geo, I love ya man but the only bobber you need is the 1" styrofoam bobber. That big 13" one you make for "windy" conditions and any other is a waste of time to make or money to buy. If its too windy that you lose the 1" bobbers in the waves then its too busy for the fly period. 45-50 degree water and the baitfish are not bobbing and weaving at Mach 10 with the motion of the ocean. Think of the baitfish and what actions are they doing under water. Early Dec, water 55-57, more active bait more active presentation of fly. End of Feb water 42, long cold winter bait is cold shivering near death, slow presentation. Depth and presentation first when using the fly
