Can you use a trotline in a lake?

I've lost a lot of crankbaits to trotlines and I have cut several of them that appeared to be unattended. One time I almost got my head took off by one that was abandoned and then falling lake levels left it hanging about four feet above the surface.

Geez your lucky... They should make people label trot lines like they do noodles that way you could call fish and wildlife so they could fine the scum bag that left that line there.

Each sport fishing trotline, jug line or set line must be: 1) permanently labeled with the name and address of the user; 2) baited, checked and all fish removed at least once every 24 hours; 3) removed from water, bank or tree when fishing ceases.

Someone had set it across main channel on the upper part of Robinson Creek on Green River Lake. Coe had lowered the lake quickly and my hubby was going way too fast up the creek channel.
