Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for September 28, 2009

Starting with the fishing conditions down at Reelfoot Lake.

As of this past Tuesday, I found the lake water conditions to be around the same as last weeks for the exception of the water level. The lake ( Reelfoot ) has come up a couple of inches due to recent rains and depending on what happens through this weekend may change even more. I would say the lake is close to normal pool level and maybe a inch or so above

Water temperatures are still holding in the 74 degrees range. This is about 1 foot under the surface. Of course on bright, sunny, warm days, these temps may reach the 80 degree mark but days end.

Water is in really good shape on that end of the lake best I could tell. I will say this, there has been no shortage of Seed Moss on Reelfoot Lake this past year. It is everywhere and a really good area to fish.

I was able to test on of the newest upgrades that the TWRA did on the Gray's / Badger's Ramp which is located on the West side of Walnut Log area just due south of the Air Park Inn Ramp. This ramp is first class and I drove down and looked at the Air Park Inn Ramp as well and this too is good. The TWRA and other has done a great job from what I can tell. These ramps extend out in the water some 30 to 40 feet which should make unloading and loading your boat on a lower lake much easier. Thanks TWRA.

Champy's Pocket and Kirby Pocket should be repaired very soon.

As for the fishing, I did see several folks on that end of the lake I was on and when I left I circled down around the Blue Bank area finding several folks out in deep water fishing for Crappie.

As of the last reports I received, the Crappie bite was pretty good and most being caught off of minnows.

The Crappie bite will continue to get better as the water temps cool even more. Once they get into the 60's, then the bite should really be good.

The Bass continue to be considered fair. The lake is in so much better shape now than it was this time in the last two years which has helped all sorts of fishing. The oxygen levels has stayed above what they normally are and with a fresh drink of water from time to time have really help also.

Right now the best bites are coming fishing around lilly pads and seed moss. Buzzbaits, frog type baits, spinnerbaits seem to be best. On cloudy days, these Bass tend to get out and cruse more looking for their prey. The key again is baitfish and water color. The thicker the water may look, kinda soupy, the worse off you are in that area. Things may not be right. Just move around and it will not take long to find better water conditions.

Catfish too are bitting good. Any method is good. Depends how much effort you might want to put into this fishing trip.
were Rick Kelly, Jamin Barker, Ben Parker, David Rhodes, Brian Hale and Bill Coffee. Congrats guys on a job well done.

Coming up this October 25th on a Sunday, the annual Strike King Lure Company Fish Against A Pro Tournament on Reelfoot Lake will take place so go ahead and mark you calenders. I will have more inforamtion on this event in the weeks ahead. Tournament headquarters will be the Blue Bank Resort on the south end of the lake.
