I think for a first time tournament it went well.
The Kentucky Restaurant Association kept their promise to pay out $50,000 to the winner of the tournament.
Other sponsors stepped up, like Fuji Film and Outback Steakhouse to provide prizes and a dinner.
Nothing is perfect, but the people I talked too enjoyed this format more and Donnie Keaton the weighmaster said he had more fun at this tournament than any other he has weighed in.
I hope that we can keep this going beyond the first year. It will be tough due to the poor attendance... and we know the reasons so lets not dredge that up. In the end the KRA was a standup organization that kept its word on the big money.
In a first year tourney, there are always problems, but they were dealt with professionally and with dignity by all concerned. I really hope that this shows those out there that had their doubts that this will work, and not fishing was a BIG Mistake.
