    fishfinder fishfinder

lets talk sonar, was watching fishing shows saterday i wathed a man sitting in 30 feet of water in his boat watching his graft while a fish swam up and took his biat and swam off, then he set the hook ,caught the fish .Is our tech. that so far advanced?
If so,how do you fine tune the sonar to do so?
Ive noticed there not alot of discussion on sonar and how they are fine tuned.
would like to see more in put on this topic.

For faster readings set your chart speed and pings to the maximum like many people do when fishing deep water.

I've always wanted to be able to understand my sonar better. I don't understand why I can't ever see my lure on it. Seems if it passed through the cone it would show up as something. Anybody got any good tips for setting up a fishfinder.

I'm with you on this. Mines always shows fish just before it changes depth scale. I've seen others do this too. And if I pass over submergered trees it always shows fish, maybe they're fish but i think it's just pinging off the branches. I just want to understand the dumb thing well enough to trust it. It does show my anchor when i drop it and will show a school of bait fish if I dump my night crawlers overboard.

drop a jig or better yet a jigging spoon about 10-15 feet down. directly inder you Xducer. Trolling mounted xducer is best. adjust sensitivity until you see bottom echo at say 20 feet. if there is not alot of clutter showing keep adjusting till you see a second bottom echo at twice the deptt, i.e. 40 feet. if you got clutter filter you have to tweek that too. when you see your bait at the prescribed depth (possibly a thin line on screen as long as you're sitting still), lift your rod and see if you get angled sweep of dots on the screen that is your depthfinder showing your bait. I have a file somewhere whith excellent setup values for a Lowrance X-65 or X-75. should be the same for the equal Eagle models. Good Luck. Dave

For you guys with the lowrance depth finders their web-site even has product emulators. You can adjust and tweek them just like the one on your boat. The site also gives tips on how to set-up for fishing your paricular depth/speed. Something good to try on a cold day like today and all from the comfort of your favorite computer chair. Their tutorial will walk you through a lot of features that you could put to use on the water. Very informative web-site. Good luck to all.

If you go over what you know is cover and it shows a bunch of fish you have the fish id mode on.to get fish arches and see the limbs and you lure turn your unit on manual mode drop the lure in to the bottom about 20ft is good for a start.turn up the sensitivity until your bait shows up and you can watch where it moves.when set right you can see it all.i have the cheaper cudas on my boat and i have no problem seeing stuff.
