    Fall Big Bass Tournament ??

Would any of y'all be interested in fishing a Fall Big Bass Tournament held on Ky Lake??

    Lets say around 1st or 2nd weekend in October. $90 per boat, 80% payback, fish with partner or alone, 20 boats pays top 3 spots -- $800 1st, $400 2nd, $240 3rd.
Participants will only weigh in their biggest fish over 4 lbs, anything under 4 lbs doesn't count. If no one catches a fish over 4 lbs, money is returned. If only one boat catches a 4+ bass he gets all the money ($1440 for 20 boats)!

Is this a good idea?, what would you change about this?, This tournament will be held in October of 2007 so we have time, we could make it this year with enough interest but no need to hurry. Did I leave anything out?

RE: Fall Big Bass Tournament ??

I think it sounds like a great idea, but one question, where's the other 20% go?

I'm not trying to be greedy, but if this were for a charity, I know I'd be much more excited about it. I do understand that a lot of folks have tournaments and don't pay back 100%, some are to raise money for their own clubs, others charities. So I am just curious, that's all.

Thanks BB... and let's launch from mid lake.... like down around Kenlake or Fenton!!

Look here I am making suggestions, and haven't comitted 100% to fishing. LOL

    Good luck.

The other 20% of the money goes to the Kentucky Lake Bass Club. It comes handy when we do our annual special population tournament out of Honker Bay. We get some sponsership but that doesn't cover drinks and food for every one. This is not written in stone yet, we could go to 90% or even 100% payback, that's no problem with me. It may be icky on some club members but so what, but a little portion going to the club wouldn't hurt. Let's get some ideas about how much should go the each of top three finishers. I thought about having it where the biggest bass wins even if it is a 3 lber or less, that way the money is given out no matter what as long as someone catches a fish.
The second weekend of October is the 14th I believe, not sure whether it will be this weekend or the first (October 7th), it would all depend on majority decision.
One mind alone can get lost, so good or bad input is welcome.

Danny: The tournament will either be out of Fenton or Kenlake, funny you mentioned, which would be better in case of high winds?

For high winds, Kenlake is the obvious choice. You can then stay in the bay and avoid the big lake.

I don't mind the 20% going back to the club to help fund one of your special events, just like to know.

I am not crazy about a minnimum size limit that is greater than the lake's normal min. The reason? I get skunked down there on a regular consistency. I'd like to just see a 15 inch min. I think you will still get over 4 lbers brought in.

I also would like to see this not be an all day tournament. I would love to see just a 4 or 5 hour tournament. Makes it more doable for me and my really bad back.

I hope you saw my post on the tournament board about the 12th. Something has come up beyond my control, and I am now out of that. Sorry.

I would not suggest the first or second weekend in Oct. There are many big tournaments on those weekends already. You should do it now when nothing is going on for maxium participation. As far as the 20% who cares. Just run it professionally take care of the fish and provide lie detector test to the winner.

RE: Fall Big Bass Tournament ??

If those two weekends are too full come next year, then I will go for the last weekend of September (Sat. 9/29/07) Hopefully one of those is available, I am trying to get close into the fall run so having the tourney around August is out. So it will have to be somewhere between the last of Sept. to the end of Oct. I know that mid to late Oct is Classic time for a lot of folks, but not everyone makes the classic and half the ones who make it don't go. If I get 20 boats that's satisfying, with 20 boats at $90 a boat and 80% payback, that is $800-1st, $400-2nd, $240-3rd, sound satisfying?
As far as high winds, no matter how high they get some will travel around the lake anyway, Cool Crk and Ledbetter ain't that big, I'm just concerned with loading the boat, but let's hope for good weather and an available weekend. I thought about a Sunday tournament, but I think Saturday is best. I don't believe there will be a minimum wt limit on the fish, this way the money is won as long as someone weighs a fish.
And YES, the winning boat must stay for a lie detector test before collecting the money.. :)
