    Launching at Dale Hollow

Are you still able to launch at Wisdom Dock, and if not what is the closest ramp to there that would be usable?

I'm not sure about Wisdom. I usually put in at Wisdom but last Saturday I went to the State Dock b/c I fgiured I couldnt get in at Wisdom. Didnt have any trouble there. We put in at the new dock across the hill from the lodge. Great new dock! Need some buoys to minimize wake, could definately use some more parking. Other than that great place to put in.

According to the Corps of Engineers web site, Dale"s water level is now at 636. Wisdom dock will have a little over 2 feet of water to launch in when the lake is at 633, below which they don't recommend launching. So it looks like you should be able to launch OK.

    Hope this helps,

    Grumpy

I am planning trying Dale for the first time. I am not setup to FnF, I like to jig fish any recommendations. I did see the Fnf rod on BPS on sale...is it worth it? If so, what size rod...I have the reel to put on it. Also I don't have a clue of what kind of jigs...I have some homeade hair jigs...do you also put a trailer on it?

Since it is my first trip to Dale where is the closest put in to Dale from Central KY area? Thanks for the help.

I have a small cabin just up the road from wisdom dock i absolutely love that place. Not sure about the water level last time i was down it was really low for putting in runabouts but since your fishing out of a fishing boat you should be just fine.

Closest place to launch from Central Ky is Wisdom Ramp just outside of Albany Ky. This will put you in Illwill Creek on the Ky side of the lake. If you are interested in the FNF then take a trip to Celina and go to the One Stop and they have everything you need to get started. A Lexus Silstar rod and their FNF starter kit plus fireline mainline and flourocarbon leader plus a pack of 3 way swivels will set you back less than $120 for all and you will be set to start with the fly. If you do go to Celina then you can launch down there at Pleasant Grove or Horse Creek or even Hendricks Creek or State Park ramp on your way back out. Make sure you have your TN liscense if you are not fishing Ky or recipricating waters just a reminder since it will by your first trip to Dale. Elnut

How was the trip? Were you able to put in at Wisdom? I have heard that I should go onto State Park area. Thanks for everyone's reply about the FnF and fishing Dale. I am so excited about the possibilities of going next week I am like a kid on Christmas Eve...I am having difficulty sleeping. I have to wait a week...boy I sure will be tired.

    Re: Launching at Dale Hollow

i put in just fine at wisdom and we have a 19 foot ranger but stay to the left or u will run out of ramp.... i had a good day today.. i had 6 smallies a 20 3/4 a 19 1/2 a 16 a 15 and a 18 and another short fish and dad had a 4lb large mouth all came off the fly fishing about 12 feet below the bobber we fished from trooper island to around first island. it rained on and off peridiocally today it was a good trip one of my best down there with the fly.... i also lost a monster brown fish i had it on for a good minute long enough to see that it was a topside it came up and wanted to jump and i was back reeling and it went back down in a hurry and pulled off the hook ..... it was THAT fish.... so i guess it was a good day...i just used plain duck with that glittery stuff on the bottom....
