    Jerkbait Rods

In your guys opinion what would be a good baitcasting rod for jerkbaits. Do you all like a medium action or a medium heavy. Fished a tournament this weekend and would have won if I had not lost a fish on a jerkbait. My partner also about lost another keeper on a jerkbait. Just wondering if a medium action would be better?? What do you all think??????

I prefer fishing a jerkbait on a glass rod as opposed to graphite. I usually use fluro when fishing a jerk and found myself reacting to quickly when using graphite and fluro combination.

I use graphite, but a I use limber med. action with a moderate tip. That gives me enough flex to prevent them throwing it.

I like a 6ft med rod, its shortness i like and med action lets me rip it comfortably, and fiberglass.

I use a Loomis MBR 782 which is a 6'6M rod. The tip is what I'd call moderate fast but Loomis calls it fast. Great jerkbait and topwater rod. Best I've found. Rarely ever loose fish. If I move up the the 783, I will start to have a fish or two come unbuttoned.

i use a 7ft.md-h e-glass rod; something with plenty of give works good for me. only reason i dont use fiberglass is cause the e-glass is lighter.

Falcon 6' Lowrider MH. Fishes like a medium. Shorter rod makes working a jerkbait much easier. Moderately priced so you don't have to pay and arm and a leg. You do need to use a low profile reel though...bigger reels make it unbalanced and hard to throw. Try it...you won't be sorry. Double as a great walking bait rig also.

Falcon Reaction 6'-4" jerk bait rod. Made especially for jerk baits. Has a lot of give for that quick strike and excellent for the fight.

I have an old All Star Zell Rowland signature rod that I started using for jerkbaits a few years back. It quickly became my favorite rod (except for my flippin sticks). I've had great success with it, so I went out to buy another one. The new version is not endorsed by Zell, but it's the same rod. It's simply called the TWS (top water special). Very reasonably priced, too.

I like the six foot rods because it makes you work less, and like others have said, I believe you will get better hookups with glass rods imo.

My first choice is a 7' crankin stick. If I'm fishing tight quarters or need pinpoint accuracy I'll use a M action six footer. The shorter rod lets you put the bait on your target when you're throwing at a target.
