    Braid

I have never used the braided line.....I have read a few comments fellas have made about braided line and am considering putting some on a spinning reel.My reason is hopefully to find a line that doesn't have as much memory as the 6 pound mono I am using now....am i wasting my time or does the line have less memory...and is it as easy casting as the mono.

    Re: Braid

i would try braid...depending what type of water and fishing u r doing. It is very visible, but very strong and has little memory. If you use it on a spinning outfit, use 20 lb. power pro...it is the diameter of 6lb. mono. U can use a leader of some type to counteract the visiblility. I love it for topwater baits and anything that moves quickly....i.e less visible to fish. It floats, so not so good for crankbaits or jerkbaits. Also, it has very little stretch...so be careful on hooksets and while fighting fish...you can take it away from them!

thanks.....I tried the flouro and we just never got to be buds so I went back to mono.. I need a line that handles a little better on the spinning reel...especially in the 6 pound size...I don't have much problem with the 12lb mono on the spinning reel but the lighter stuff is kinda like trying to keep spider web from tangling up...

    Re: Braid

I use Bass Pro Shop XPS Flourocarbon 6lb test on all my spinning outfits for winter fishing and have never had a problem with the line. Cast very good, very little memory and has excellent strength. I spool it the right way and even then when I get on the water for the first time after putting new line in the spool, I will open the bail and let out the line behind the boat all the way to a few yards above the knot on the spool then drag it thru the water for a good 30 to 50 yards or so at idle speed. Then close the bail and reel in the line. This takes out all the twist and then go fishing. It also depends on what you are fishing with and what type of water. If you are fishing clear water then you won't get as many bites on straight braid. If you do use braid then you need to tie a uni knot of flourocarbon for the last few feet to help. Again if 6lb is all you need then I would try a good flourocarbon first before switching to braid, just my opinion.

    Re: Braid

The flourocarbon I tried was 12lb test and I had a problem with it breaking in the knot... it was on a casting reel so I didn't didn't pay much attn to the memory of the line... maybe a different brand of line might have been better ,what I tried was trilene something or other.... and I seemed to get more break offs on the hookset than with mono... I don't really have a problem with line visability in the water because I always use a leader even if i'm fishing with a minnow...

When tying a knot with flouro you have to make sure to wet the line before you cinch the knot....I have also had good luck with BPS flouro.

    Re: Braid Flluorocarbon Coated?

Just purchased two boxes of P-Line CX Premium Fluorocarbon Coated, 12 lb line (0.0116: diameter), Hi-Vis Fluorescent Green, for use on a couple of spinning reels I use for fishing deep water jigs. Have no experience with this line, but sales pitch sounds good. Anyone have experience with it???

I don't like P-Line...too much memory...IMO!!!! Berkely or BPS has been much better for me...good luck with it though!!!

    Re: Braid

I have been using only mono until this fall when I put 60 lb braid on a couple reels for trolling saltwater,am satisfied with the results.About three weeks ago put 30 lb. braid on a couple baitcasters for throwing 1/8 oz. and smaller jigs for sauger, think it is better.Braid is a different animal than mono.It has no memory which is good.Am able to cast lighter baits with braid than would be possible with mono and you can feel a strike or a jig bouncing over the bottom much better. If you get hung up or loose a fish the braid seems to have a mind to come back at you hard and tie its self around the rod, have had to cut line on two occasions due to this.Backlash has not been a problem to get out using very light lures but I can see if you let a heavy plug or bait backlash your reel it may be imposable to get out.I am using a cheap brand from Hong Kong,my fishing buddy who uses braid all the time says it is as good as the branded line costing three times as much.Go ahead and give it a try.

Thanks guys.....I have about decided to try the stuff...... bought some of the conditioner in the spray can and it helps with the tangling problem but it seems to me it reduces your casting distance.

    Re: Braid

The P-Line CX Premium is awsome line for night fishing , but it isn't a true fluorocarbon , it is fluoro coated an not sure what that means but it does have stretch . But it is my choice for night fishing for you can see it under blacklight an it's pretty suple .

    Re: Braid

The only thing you need to be aware of with Braid out side of what the others has mentioned is the noise. When you reel it in on a spinning rod it makes a lot of noise that other lines don't make. You don't notice it on a bait caster but very loud on spinning rod.
Works good on spinning rod other than the few draw backs listed.
