New to KY. Looking for fishing locations.

Hi everyone. I recently moved to Ky from northern IN. I leave in Jessamine county. I am trying to find some good place to fish. I am wondering about the KY river. I have a 16' Tracker with 25 hp. I havent had much luck finding info about the river. I have checked out a few ramps to it. One at hwy 39, and one at Highbride. This is about all I know. Looking to get into some bass or crappie. Any help would be great. Thanks. Erik

There's a ramp below the US 27 bridge also. Go across the bridge, up the hill, and turn left. From there I would go up river and fish below lock 8. If you put in at Highbridge, would definitely fish up in Dix river. Welcome to the board and good luck! Your also close to Herrington Lake and Cedar Creek Lake in Stanford. Both of those can be real good also.

Try the High Bridge area ramp. The ramp is basically surrounded by trailers and doesn't look like much but you can hit the Dix river from there. There is also a ramp by I-75 close to Riptides.
Look at Stoner Creek in Paris for some fun also....two ramps there.

Welcome to KY and the site!

Thank you all. kygorki, I had a place on Little Barbie lake near Warsaw. If you are familier with that area, so I fished most the small lakes up there. Thanks again.

I hate to burst your bubble, but the fishing in northern indiana is just as good as it is down here, or even better. Fished that area you came from for musky, and I lived about 12 miles from lake michigan, and two hours from western michigan trout and salmon fishing. But there are far more good ramps here in ky, and a lot of trhem are either free or corp ramps reasonable launch fees.

If I were you I would get to know Cedar Creek in Stanford. No jetskis allowed, and it will be a true trophy lake before long

I see Cedar Creek producing big bass, it already does, but its always going to a difficult lake to fish for some especially people who dont go there alot due to the fishing pressure.

Kincaid is a great lake worth checking out.

What do you want to fish for?

I fish the KY river regularly but I am a novice so I can't give to much advice.

The Dix river is a trout stream past a prominate sign they have there. Past that sign you have to have a trout stamp but I wouldn't bother since your boat is to big to get up there.

I have seen and been told that below the locks are good for sauger, walleye, etc (drum). Go to the Corps of Engineers website for waterlevels before heading out in the winter though.
Watch for floating logs, trees, trash, etc in the river. I would not travel WOT in that river ever.

PM me if you want to know where to catch 30 lb catfish.
    tight lines.
