Never heard of that being illegal. If it is there are a lot of illegal videos on youtube. It is loaded with how to videos.
I know their are a lot of people. that read post, on fishin.com. and in the mix of us all. some of ky's smartest open the pages of fishin.com. I have a question for you all, and hope someone knows the answer. I bought some flexible strips of blacklights off the internet, and installed them in the rubrail on my boat. and as I did it, I made a video of the installation. and posted it on youtube. I'm a poor man myself, and by doing the lights myself. is the only way I could have had them. so I thought their must be a lot of guys like me, that could do the lights themself. if they could see a how to video. I did the video only to help other fishermen, that don't have the big bucks to spend.. I was told that, it's against the law to make a how to video of this. my question is, is it against the law? if it is, I'm going to delete the video. I hate to delete it, because I've had a lot of emails from guys thanking me for the help it gave them. thanks in advance for any help.![]()

Were you told why it is illegal. From the info you gave, there should be nothing illegal about it. If you mentioned a specific product name that is trademarked, maybe that could be part of the problem...
I can't imagine that being illegal. Now, if your instructions were incorrect, and somebody got injured, or suffered property loss as a result, maybe, just MAYBE, they could sue, so it might be "legally inadvisable." But I doubt you're breaking any laws.
I think I just watched it, I think it is a Nitro, a red one, I see nothing about it that someone could say it is against the law!! it is no different than the thousand of other how too's, nice job by the way and I like your garage floor lol, My Ranger has a rope in the middle of the rub rail, any thoughts on how I can make that work??
Gary
I dont see how it could be illegal. Great how to video.
Sounds like someone is trying to SCARE you from taking away from their business.
You give NO names of products, and NO names of vendors, so I don't see how you've broke any law.
I'd turn it around on the dude who said it was illegal and ask them to PROVE it.......and when they don't maybe just send them a little warning letter to cease and desist..........

Geo
Geo nailed it, you are stepping on someone's toe's.
Even if he mentioned a product by name, as long as he isn't associated with the product and he is simply endorcing something that has worked for him, it's legal here.
As for Youtube, even if, or should I say ESPECIALLY if he is associated with a product, it's legal to post how tos. I've given several companies business because they had a video that showed me how to use their product and that their product would work for me. Isn't that the real value of Youtube?
this guy called me, and said that he lived in northern ky. and that he was the one that came up with the idea. and he had the patent on it. and it was against the law for me to have a how to video of his idea on youtube. he said he would use the law against me. if I didn't remove the video from youtube. I really don't think it's against the law, but it could be. I don't profit anything from having the video on youtube. some of you guys may save yourself 4 or 5 hundred dollars, by watching it and doing the rub rail lights yourself. so just in case the guy is right. I'm going to delete the video.. ps. anyone would think, it would be against the law to charge 6 hundred or more for a job that can be done for under 2 hundred. but I guess not.

yes sir, that was it. I did the garage floor myself also. I used the garage floor kit from a home supply store. it to is easy to do. I watched a how to video on youtube, before doing mine. now about the rub rail on your boat. you will need to change the insert in your rub rail. you can get one at this place.{ Barbour plastics ranger boat rub rails } has many colors and choices. I think the 40 foot rub rail insert is 65.00 call 1-800-955-9649 and tell them what you need.
