Two Boats Hit Roadbed at Barren

    Gang,
I went to Barren yesterday (Sat) to run the boat, try to locate some fish, get my son out of the house and generally just be outside. Barren is very low and pretty muddy. Those two characteristics, along with cold water can combine to take your life. Yesterday afternoon, I watched two different boats hit the roadbed towards the mouth of Peters Creek, within about 30 minutes of each other. Fortunately, it appeared that in both cases the boats were able to get back under way. Fortunatey, it appeared that noone was injured (or killed). Unfortunately, it appeared as though both boats will have to undergo some degree of repair. After I loaded the boat back up that evening, I was visiting with a buddy who came over to fish out of his boat. We were talking about the roadbed and other dangers in the lake and I mentioned the old bridge and roadbed near the Scottville water tower. He has fished that lake for years and did not realize that this hazard was there. Folks, Barren, along with many other bodies of water, are at very low levels right now. The fever to get out, run your boat and catch fish is very high. Please take the time to make sure that you can navigate your boat safely on whatever body of water you chose to fish thoughout the upcoming season.

    Tight Lines,
    Mike

I know exactly where you are talking about. We walked out on it last year when the water was down. There was a guy crappie fishing on it all the way out. Coming into Peters, you can tell where it comes in if you look on the left side, over by the fishing pier. While we were walking on it, i noticed several deep scars on the surface of the old road.. ugggghgg... lower unit repairs for sure....

Used to be a red round buoy on the end of it. You need to go between it and the bank that the golf course is on.

All kinds of fun stuff to run up on. The old 31 bridge and roadbed is another. There is an old silo that is probably completely out of the water right now but will become a hazard as the lake fills.

Best way to avoid that stuff is to get out there in the winter and learn where it is. I duck hunt the lake all winter and there is all kinds of fun stuff to run up on. Some big stumps that I didn't know was there.
