Speculation is that this team in Turkey paid Kanter $100K+ in his last year on their team...which would make him a pro and kill his eligibility. However, if that is true, why in the world would his parents move halfway around the world and enroll their son in college to play ball knowing that this would be an issue? If it was about money, why wouldn't he have just stayed in Turkey if he was making that kind of cheddar? He would have nothing really to gain by coming to college, and that kind of pay to lose. I've heard numbers in the millions that he could have made immediately signing with European Pro Teams...but it sounds like the kid wants to come to college.
His father is a well respected doctor, wealthy...so it aint like the kid is living in a turkish prison or worrying about his next meal.
Why would Cal put the effort into recruiting him, if this was known...knowing that it would be a deal breaker in the end?
I don't buy it. These Turkish guys seem shady as hell and I'm not sold on their intentions. They are the only ones with anything to gain from trying to block the kid from coming to America. They wanted him to play over there and are ticked that he wants to go to college and play NBA ball in America. I've heard all kinds of crap. There are multiple sides to every story I guess. Very interested to see how this one plays out. We need the big man...he's for real...
At least it's not a situation where UK is being pointed at for doing something dirty this time.
