Stick Marsh Lake & Farm 13 Fishing Report Updated July 7, 2009
July 7, 2009
There has been a tremendous amount of rain, which means that water is running through the Stick Marsh/Far 13 area. Schooling fish are a possibility in the moving water areas. The number one thing to watch for is good water quality, dirty water with low oxygen is a turnoff for Bass and many areas have low oxygen content. Find good water and you will finds the Bass. We have been catching fish on artificial baits daily, but with no real aquatic cover the fish are roaming a lot making it hard to stay on them.

Once again we had a successful trip to the Stick Marsh there has been
a good deal of cold weather in South Florida this winter and the water temperatures have been up and down several times. The water in near 70 again and the fish are active, we caught some nice fish on artificial baits, but did better on shiners with 23 Bass, we did not catch any Stick Marsh giants today but the small fish were so active I don't think a big Bass had a chance to even get a shiner.

The water in the Stick Marsh/Farm 13 impoundment has warmed considerable after the brief cold spell of last week. Our shiner fishing trip this week was very good, we did not catch any giant Bass but we had a lot of 3 to 5 pounders that made the day very enjoyable. Action was steady throughout the day, we caught several Bass that were very full of roe and actually weeped eggs all over the boat while I was unhooking them preparing to release them.

Fishing in the Stick Marsh/Farm 13 impoundment has been very good for Specks. Good numbers of large Specks are being caught by both minnow and jig fishermen. There has been heavy traffic by local and visting fishermen since the Speck bite took off. The parking lot has been full of boats lately, most of them Speck fishermen. Them great reputation of this fishery has put the heavy pressure on the fish.
Bass fishing has been a hit or miss proposition for the last few weeks. Good catches one day so-so the next. The fish seem to be widely scattered. Traditionally during this time of year there are predictable areas where good numbers of 2 to 3 pound Bass should be holding. The intersections of the canals that criss-cross the impoundment are a good place to start looking for numbers of fish. It may take some probing to locate a school of fish but once located it is possible to catch strong numbers of Bass. Carolina Rigs, Senkos, and Crank Baits will all produce fish.

Fishing has been very consistent in the Stick Marsh/Farm 13 impoundment, There was a 10 plus pound Bass reported that was caught on a Carolina Rig in Farm 13. The fish are hanging around in the deeper areas of the ditches, the intersections of the ditches are normally the most productive areas. It can take quite some time to locate fish in this myriad of criss crossed ditches but once a school is located it is possible to catch fish after quality fish from the same relative area. There are still a lot of giant Bass that inhabit the Stick Marsh/Farm 13 area but they have many many places to hide there is still a huge amount of sunken timber and the fish are right at home there, it requires heavy line and patience to pick apart the stumps and timbers areas and to coax a giant fish from this thick stuff. There is a small amount of hydrilla that is reappearing and with time it will reestablish itself along all of the ditch lines.
